I, personally, feel ISB is the best in business. For an institute which is finding its feet of late, premature judgements based on initial openings and placements is not wise.
Do we care to think about the initial openings of IIMs or atleast at the time globalization crept in. They were certainly not phenomenal. Same is the case with the ISB. It will take time to really start dominating the scenario.
Agree, the expectations were high. That is the reason why ISB is considered as risky by many. Lot of expectations ruined the student community and it is not fair to blame the entire administration for that. Whats more, it secured a best overseas placement of 28 lakhs per annum, avg 10.5 LPA and least of 4.8 lakhs per annum despite global recession. And compare this with IIM-A, the leading B-school till date max-14.8 LPA Avg 6.4 LPA and minimum of 3 lakhs per annum.
After an initial foothold I am confident that ISB will be a force to reckon with and will be way ahead of the other schools. And comparing ISB with IIM is like comparing a air plane and a bullet train, different domains. The student profile, facilities, faculty, academic schedule .. everything vary.
As a conclusion Id like to point out the fact that it is of no use - jumping to conclusions based on incorrect/inappropriate/misjudged/premature assumptions.
