The EMBA at ISBM is one of the best for professionals with more than one graduate or PG degree. The books in the syllabus are by none other than Tata Mc Graw Hill and the teachers and the staff are extremely courteous and well mannered. It is a good investment for working people, as it is cost efficient and you can finish any time within the span of 2 years.
The subject matter is concise and clear. There are 9 papers depending on your area of specialization. The Operations Management paper appears to be the toughest, but is the most scoring. You get to learn a lot, from differentiation between services and products, to sales aggregates, forecasting, drawing process flow charts for business processes, streamlining the organization, how to remove errors, decision tree analysis, revising shop floor layouts, CPM/PERT problems, and lots more.
You have the choice of appearing for exams by various methods viz, by the regular exam method and the case study method. The case study method is the best, as the questions are based on the theory that you have read. You don’t have to mug up or learn by rote. Just understanding the theory is enough. It is better to read up the portion twice and revise for a third time. The portion is vast, but you can’t leave out anything, because cases come from anywhere.
I scored 81% in the exam. My answers were very detailed and I attempted the entire question paper. The case study method is the best method, as you have to write the theory that you have learnt from the books, as well as give your opinion on the various business scenarios that the exam paper enlists.
20 marks are reserved for presentation, so if you’ve presented your papers well, then you may get the entire 20 marks.
All in all, a good experience for busy people. After you’ve completed your MBA, you can even list for the PhD in management programme, if you have what it takes.
The case study approach is for higher level students, so if this is your first degree after graduation, then opt for the exam approach.
ISBM also has affiliate MBA programmes from the UK, so if you want an international degree, you can get that too. For people with a Commerce or Finance background, there are also mathematical problems in the case studies, but these are very easy.
It is probably the only MBA institute in Mumbai that doesn’t cheat students, is genuine and is not after money only.
