Last year after diwali vacations(nov08) I decided to fly down from nagpur to mumbai as my 1& half year old daughter is hyperactive and very naughty. Spending 18 hours with her in train means a lot of physical and mental strain.
There are limited options and one of these is Indigo. I flew with indigo only once as I am not a frequent flyer but I have tried most of the domestic airlines excluding Kingfisher. The experience was ok.
I will mention some things which are important for everyone if you are booking tickets online
1) while booking the tickets I selected the seats on the website itself. While checking in these were changed without keeping me informed. I managed to get only one window seat instead of 2. Later when I asked if something can be done, the airline person regretted that he was not able to do anything about it.
2) I called the airline customer care in order to get all the details about required documents as my infant daughter was accompanied by us. I had a tough time arranging for the birth certificate, doctors certificate, photograph and getting it attested in a short time as first I had to go to nagpur from jabalpur and catch the flight next morning.
I some how managed to get a copy of birth certificate faxed from pune just 2 hours before check in time. After reaching the check in counter i was surprised that the staff did not eve ask for any document. I staff said that we can make out if a baby is below 3 years and we allow them as well. If so, why was I asked to collect so many documents at the first place?
I advice everyone who travels with infants to keep a photo id of yourself along with baby’s photo attested by a gazetted officer along with an attested copy of birth certificate.
3) the good part is the airline people gave us seats in a row making sure not allotting the third seat to anyone
4) The overall experience was good, clean aircraft and friendly cabin crew.
5) the landing was not as smooth as others (but that may be a rare case)
A good no frills airline option.
