I had high hopes from this product and wanted it to succeed as it desi. But I m now fed up. When it stopped working for the third time recently I flung it across the room in anger. Thus ended my relationship with pi.
I bought it even after amazon kindle drastically reduced its price so its much cheaper now (around 7500 Rs. if you has relatives abroad and on par with pi if you it order it from India) only because I badly wanted an Indian product to excel.
It was delivery within 2 days so no complaint on that front. But opening the package I found it to be pretty cheap looking. It was like paying Nokia prices for a Chinese knock off mobile. But still if it worked well, I would overlook its looks.
It didn’t take long to disillusion me. First time it hanged (after 10 days or so)I was told it was a firmware issue. And salespeople scolded me that I could have just looked the problem on the net. Sorry, I said I can’t download a 400 MB file and buy a SD card worth 3000 Rs. just because you didn’t update your software when I ordered the device well after that update was released. So grumbling they updated it for me. Then wonderfully it worked for about 45 days. Then again same problem the screen just hanged.
This time infibeam people were more well behaved and promised to return the pi book reader after keeping it overnight. When after a week I asked them if their overnight would be ending soon, they replied mine was a faulty model so they’ll be replacing it for free and it will reach me by end of the week. To cut a long story short it was another 20 days before it arrived. And this time it took all of 4 days before it hanged again. So you can understand my frustration when I threw it and it broke.
But now I m 10, 000 rs. poorer but at least I have gotten rid of the frustrating device that is the infibeam pi ebook reader.
My advice stay the hell away from this product in particular and infibeam.com in general. Also if you already own a pi then please don’t throw it away however angry you are. My only regret is if I had the device still intact I would have loved to sue that website.
AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE.
