Infinitea - Too much hype less substance

As the name suggests it’s tea shop located on Cunningham Rd diagonally Opp to the Sigma Mall & in the same building as the Schezwan restaurant.

Infinitea has soft yellow lighting. Split into 2 levels, it has adequate seating and is not overly crowded. We were there on a Sunday evening at around 7. The walls have some cute frames and the entire feel of the place is laid back while being classy. There is a portion of the wall with a display of varieties of tea they have on sale.

We were received at the door and chose to sit on the ground level at the window area overlooking the street. The food menu consists of short eats, pastas, sandwiches and deserts. There is a comprehensive tea menu as well. Not being particularly hungry enough to order pasta and too bored to eat sandwiches we ordered the cheese jalapeno nuggets and a pot of oolong tea.

We were served the nuggets first. The crust was too hard and over fried. The outside was cold but the cheese was molten inside so the first bite actually gave us a burn. In short I didn’t like it. Meanwhile we were served our pot of tea with an hourglass & sieve. We were to wait while the tea was brewed for the duration of the hourglass and then sieve it. Ok I am no tea connoisseur and the oolong tasted quite like green tea(is oblong supposed to taste like that or maybe the burn caused by the nuggets killed my taste buds?). I don’t much care for green tea either so I wasn’t impressed with what I ate or drank there. The mistake over the tea I ordered was probably my fault entirely. My bill came to around Rs.250-300.

Plus: Great ambiance. Very date worthy - the process with the hourglass is sweet and makes for great novelty value.

Minus: I didn’t like the tea I ordered or the food & I don’t think it’s good value for money. I don’t think I will be going back.

P.S. - There is a fantastic chai place in Mumbai near Nariman point Ambassador Hotel which has way more variety in tea with turbaned waiters and excellent food. It has the ambiance of an old world British club and no it doesnt cost as much! Too bad I do not remember the name of the place.
