Laser is anytime better than inkjet.
However, having said that, note the following and then decide your priority:
For home user, who wants color prints, inkjet is the choice considering the price factor.
If you are going to use b/w prints most of the time and need more than 100 pages/month, I would recommend to go for a cheap b/w laser printer. Occasional requirement of color prints can be met by using a friends or Cyber Cafe printer.
Color laser is highly expensive, hence it is only for people with no budget constraints.
I have Epson inkjet, but the cartridge is not refillable.
Hence if you really need to get the cartridges refilled cheaply, go for a suitable HP model. Also HP cartridges are widely available, this should form part of your consideration.
After seeing that the initial enthusiasm of color prints dies out slowly, I think in long run going for a b/w laser makes better sense.
