Had wanted to see this movie since when it first came out...finally saw it while it was living its final few days in the theater. It is a usual Denzel movie and it is pretty good. I had high expectations for it so I was a bit disappointed but it wasn’t bad at all.
Plot: Deals with a bank being robbed by four very clever individuals who (enter the bank as painters and therefore can bring in all the necessary equipment-e.g. guns etc w/out any suspicion) who manage to carefully conceal their identity with Denzel and a buddy being sent to negotiate with these robbers. The good guys (e.g. Denzel, police, etc.) find that the bad guys are always a step ahead of them and it is almost like a cat and mouse game...on the side is also a story of the chairman of the bank Arthur Case (very loaded-$$$-guy) who has his personal interests that he wants kept secured as they have been jeopardized by this robbery taking place. To me this side story got a bit confusing. The ending is quite interesting...not the usual...
Cast: The movie is ALL Denzel, Denzel, and some more Denzel and no complaints abt that. He is as usual the best...what makes him especially fun to watch are his normal mannerisms. Nothing out of the ordinary or overdone. The ’main’ bad guy---e.g. the lead robber-Clive Owen is good. Jodie Foster was okay...wasn’t much for her to do. She comes...does her thing...nothing too memorable.
It is a usual Denzel movie so those who enjoy his movies will like this one too. He is at his usual best and carries the movie. Not sure the same holds true for Jodie Foster fans because she doesn’t have much to do. Somehow the movie just felt like something was missing...it didn’t have that ’magic’...something just seemed to be lacking...but a good flick to catch on DVD.
