It isnt rare to find out copied/Lifted songs in Indian Music Industry and why do Music Directors who boast themselves great becomce copy cats? And around 15%-25% of the Indian songs are Blatant lifts.
Rather to call these songs inspiration better to call them Copied. In Hindi and Tamil music industry(Major parts of Indian Music) this has been a part of the work. These MDs(Music Directors) dont have a valid reason for their lifts.Take for instance, the notorious Anu Mailk.Around half of his songs are lifts. There were two songs formYaarana lifted from Nusrat Fateh ali khans music.Mera piya ghar aaya andLoye loye.Similiarly songs fromBaazi, Chamatkar were also lifts.Do these people dont have even a small Knowledge of music to do on their own? Very Weird. This is just a small percent of Anu maliks lifted songs.
Sandeep Chowtais no exception. One of his greatest hitsKhambakt ishq was also a blatant lift fromEireann by Afro Celt Sound System. Two other songs from Pyaar Tune Kya kiya were of the same cadre.Fame is important for these people and not real music.
There are a few justifications from their end.Just Coincidence, Thers is nothing wrong in bringing unknown music to the masses. Are the lifts rightly justified? My point is negative.
Not only The two mentioned above are culprits, but most of them including *Rajesh
Roshan, Anand Milind *and almost everyone.
Shifting to Tamil Music, the same unhealthy situation.Who can believe *Yuvan
ShankarRaja* copied 50% ofKadhal Kondaen songs(fromA rose in the wind by Anggun, Raven by Hedningarna)? But its a fact.Harris Jayaraj is doing pretty well following the styles of Rahman. There is lack of originality. When R.D.Burman started a style, every MDs music was in the same style.Burman was a trend setter.Similarly Illayaraja and A.R.Rahman were trendsetters and during this period everyone does music in the same style started by the setters. Why do others become just copycats?
If it is just the rhythm lifted, there is a justification that they are commercially available loops. Its very true that people are using Varied loops available in the market for rhythms.A.R.Rahman was doing this in the past years.Anbae Anbae(Tauba Tauba) from Jeans, is an example for the rhythm and Peter Gabriel used it too.Similarly Enai Kaanavillaye fromKadhal Desam** Had the rhythm ofSadness by Enigma. The same loop.Tune remained original. What matters is the tune compostion and Rhythm is just a background or an add up for the song.Even Illayaraja re-uses his own rhythms a few times. That is not a fault at all.
The greatest of all culprits isDeva and I just avoided using his name where Ive
mentioned geniuses like Illayaraja and Rahman.Almost every song of him is a
lift.Shameless.If originality should the goal, giving hits among the masses shouldnt be their trait. Will the industry survive from these copycats giving genuine music.Indian Music industry is one of the greatest and had greatest musics and these copycats areBlack marks to the industry.
Inspirations can be tolerated and not Copycats.
