Even though our government receives a lot of brickbats on its abilities to run industries. But every one round the nook and corner of the country appreciates the higher education infrastructure setup by it. IITs and IIMs are world class institutions.
In the same league, GOI is planning to open a chain of IIITs that shall carry a brand value of its own, especially after exceptional growth shown by our software and services industries. IIITM Gwalior was the first to be envisaged and setup. IIIT Allahabad was next in line.
Recently there has been an announcement to set up 6 more IIITs. Jabalpur and Kanchipuram are two locations finalized by the ministry and has released Rs 51 Crores as initial grant for each of the institute. Now lets have a brief introduction of IIITM, Gwalior.
The ABV - Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management, Gwalior, a Deemed University, is an apex IT and Management Institute, established by the Government of India in 1998. The Institute awards degrees at Masters and Doctorate levels. This is an autonomous Institute setup by the Department of Education, Ministry of HRD with a financial outlay of Rs. 61.0 Crores (US $ 14 million) for the first five years. The Institute, built on a 160-acre campus on the foothills of Gwalior Fort, has the institute building and separate hostels for boys and girls.
The Institute’s activities are aimed at developing a culture of inquiry and research through a highly competitive academic environment, close student-faculty interaction and linkages with industry and leading academic institutions. There is a wide range of vibrant links with the industry: this includes flexible curriculum and development, precise curriculum delivery, summer internship projects and recruitments.
Educational Programmes offered by the institute are:
a. Five year Integrated B Tech and M.Tech / MBA Programme:This is one of the most sought after courses with 80 seats.This program provides dual academic certification:
1.B.Tech-IT + M.Tech-IT or
2.B.Tech-IT + MBA
The admission to these seats is done through the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) conducted by CBSE from 2003 onwards.
2002 batch was selected through IIT-JEE.
2000 and 2001 batch was selected through a separate examination of Maths, Physics and Mental Ability conducted by the Institute. A student getting at least AIR 2000 (General Category) can reasonably hope to get admission in this institute . There is no state wise quota for admission to ABV-IIITM.
b. Master of Technology, M.Tech Programme: It is offered in following disciplines
M. Tech Information Technology :30 seats
M.Tech VLSI Design :20 seats
M. Tech Bioinformatics :15 seats
M. Tech Advanced Network :15 seats
M. Tech Software Engineering :15 seats
The admission is through GATE examination . Separate interviews & group discussions are conducted by the institute for the candidates who are shortlisted. If one has a percentile of above 95%percentile in CS/ECE/EE. He can reasonably be assured of the call. Percentile may vary from year to year.
c. Master of Business Administration, MBA Programme: The following branches in MBA are offered by the institute:
1.MBA
2.MBA (IT enabled Services)
3.MBA (Infrastructure Management)
4.MBA (Public Sector Management)
5.MBA (Non Formal Sector)
The admission to the various MBA courses are done through the JMET Examination conducted by the IITs. All candidates with Bachelor in any of Engineering / Technology or Master Degree in Computer Applications (MCA) recognized by UGC / AICTE with at least 60% marks or, 6.75 CGPA are eligible. The final selection takes place only after GD and interview.
Nearly all the major corporates (IBM, HCL, TCS, Satyam etc) visit our campus every year. Final pay packets range from 2 lakh - 4.5 lakh per annum with a near 100% placement record ever since first batch passed out in 2000. Every company has to guarantee a minimum of 2 lakh p.a. package in order to be eligible to participate in our recruitment week. The first five year integrated batch will be passing out in 2005.
