Let a smile be your umbrella

Always wear a smile when you are being interviewed. Not a fake smile but a genuine ’’I like you’’ smile or ’’it is good to see you’’. Let your personality show through. You do not have to be somber.

Try to be out going and tell about your strong points and what good you can be to the company. Don’t boast just tell it the way it is and tell it with confidence and not conceit. There is a big difference.

Upon entering the office, introduce yourself and look the person straight in the eye. Direct eye contact is very important and shows confidence. Extend your hand and give a firm hand shake.

At this point in time the interviewer should ask you to take a seat but if he or she does not, remain standing until told to do otherwise. Do not take anything for granted.

Thank them up front for taking the time to speak with you and let them know that you are aware that their time is important.

Listen carefully to everything said to you and make notes if need be. You will want to have a list of questions ready because when the interviewer has said what they have to say they will ask if you have any questions. Show that you are interested by asking them. If you ask none they may take this as you are not all that interested in the company.

You do not need a brief case. A simple clipboard will hold your notes, resume and so forth.

Never watch the clock or look at your watch or in anyway distract your attention.

Make sure you are early for your interview even if it means a wait. It is better to be there early than late. If you are not sure of the exact location go the day before the interview and know exactly where it is and allow yourself plenty of time for traffic and any delays.

Go to bed early the night before and be well rested and very alert. Make sure you are dressed properly and you should ace the interview.
