The moment you exclaim these three musketeery words, a yellow bulb glows over your head and you know what is being talked about. Bingo! Yes Iodex. Iodex that has helped millions move with ease. At the same time giving a tough competition to Moov and Amrutanjan. However, both of them did have a considerable market share, thanks to backaches in India and "kamar kasne" aur "kamar dabane" ki pratha. I personally have developed a good taste for Iodex.
What I mean by taste, will tell you later but yes, I did enjoyed the smell of it. Remember it now! Can you recollect the smell? I am dead sure, you can and you will. But sadly I don’t see much of Iodex in the market, even after a changed marketing and advertising strategy. Perhaps, Volini took over.
I see Volini tubes in my colleague’s purses, and I wonder whether people have learnt to take precautions or they are always in pain! Phew! I dont know but the tradition of carrying Volini gels and Dispirins do attract my attention. Ah! Now I know why did Iodex fail! Yes, the packaging.
The dark green container always gave a very not-so-modern look. And wonder if my colleague take her Iodex family sized container and start applying on her elbow! Ughhhh! What a turn off. And imagine Volini, wow! even you would start feeling some pain on your lips so that you can taste a bit of it, especially if my colleague offers to apply it herself. FYI, she has been into modelling. That might explain why I am so much referring her while talking aboutfashion of applying pain ointment.:)
I miss theOoh Aah Ouch days, which is been replaced by "Iodex maliye kaam pe chaliye". Now see the contrast in the attitude and a shift from an "emotional expression" to a matter of fact. Such has been a change in the way we have started living on a fast lane and apply instant sprays for instant relief. The dark brown gel remains a winner. Not just because I have anything personal with it, but as a product it was a success. It worked very well as an antiseptic.
Yes, while many other ointments generated irritation, Iodex did helped cover small wounds. But that is a very "jugaadu" statement coz the instruction clearly said, for external use only and it might have been harmful to apply on cuts. But as I said, this is the way we live, applying one thing into other, becoming our own scientists. O ya, I remember visiting GLAXO Indias office in Gurgaon couple of years back and it was interesting to see some fresh samples, beside ENO, another favourite antacid of mine, Perhaps I will write on that soon.:) Yah am acidic.
Well, a small brown coloured bottle with 10gm capacity will cost you around Rs. 20. And the price increases proportionally.
Iodex contains: Wintergreen OilNilgiri OilMenthol FlowersClove Oiland other oils with ointment base. No wonder it tastes so good! Yah! Now you know what I meant by developing personal taste.
