Another lovely piece of work from Nagesh Kukunoor... this guy is really raising the bar for Hindi movies all the time. Recall right from Hyderabad Blues, Rockford, Teen Deewaren and the HB-2, he has given us interestingly disparate simple and yet intriguing story lines. I had all my doubts in mind, when I bought tickets to watch a struggling deaf and dumb bowler. Nagesh however puts together th
e storyline with applaudable aplomb.
Our lead char Iqbal is a small town boy, who is challenged to talk and hear.He is totally fascinated by cricket and spend his days, bowling at stumps, trying his best to immitate the nations top fast bowlers. Iqbals sister is the interpreter for him, to understand the coach, whom he secretly watches to learn the t
echnicalities of bowling. The coach does lend him a chance, on his sisters pleading, and Iqbal soon becomes the star of the coaching camp. A budding batsman atthe camp is not too happy over Iqbal robbing his star status Iqbals struggles in making it to the national team have been portrayed with
plausible storyline. Its really convincing to see a former ranji player training Iqbal to become a great bowler. Naseeruddin Shah, the acting icon, carries off the role of a former player turned alcoholic with aplomb. Shreyas Talpade deserves a high rating for this one , as he breaks into the big league, from being a Marathi soap and movie actor. Shweta Prasad is a very gifetd actress and she snap fits the role. Overall kudos to Nagesh Kukunoor and the entire team for a wonderful movie.
