Maa Thuri !!!

Maa Thuri! No, I’m not stuck for words and getting frustrated, in fact that’s the phrase everyone in Ishq Vishq seem to utter every 5 ... oops, every 2 minutes! Welcome to Ma Thu ... er ... Spencer College! Yeah, Ishq Vishq, as is evident from the promos, is yet another frothy, colourful teenybopper love triangle. Archie Andrews, you must take Indian citizenship … the Indian film makers seem to be crazy about you and the rest of the gang!

Maa Thuri! While our Archie aka Rajeev Maa thur(i) (Shahid Kapoor) reads ’those’ kinda magazines in the loo, there is a knock. No, he isn’t caught! It’s just his introductory scene. Wonder who was the last actor whose first ever scene was in the loo…

Maa Thuri! The hot babes in the mag have made time race and consequently, Shahid is late for college. “Who cares if we are late, I am lovelet!” exclaims Mambo No.5. Oops, his name is Mambo (?!) and he falls for Shahid’s maidservant. Issssh!

Maa Thuri! Where’s the story, you asked? It’s there alright. Payal (Amrita Rao) who is considered to be the behenji of the college, is secretly in love with Rajeev. Rajeev ignores her feelings, but when is in desperate need of a girlfriend, decides to use Payal’s feelings for him to his advantage. After a hilarious proposal scene with Love Guru Rocky (Yash Tonk) assisting Rajeev to ask Payal out, they burst into a song. But then, with Bollywood, what else would you expect?

Maa Thuri! There’s karva-chauth in this too! Not again, did I hear you say? Well, blame Dilwale Dulhania…!

Maa Thuri! Aao twist karein! In the story, of course! Rajeev’s true intentions come forth when he tries to get physical with Payal in a drunken state. After a slap, several dialogues and an intermission, they break off. When the rest of the college ridicules Rajeev for not apologizing to Payal, he challenges them that the hottest babe in college would soon be his…

Maa Thuri! No, this time it was my heart exclaiming! Here comes Alisha (Shenaz Treasurywala)!

Ailaa, plane! Watch out for the spoof on aapla Sachin Tendulkar! Take care that you don’t hurt yourself while you fall of your seat, laughing!

Maa Thuri, he won! Ok, so Rajeev wins the challenge of getting the hottest babe (Alisha who else). But, is he the winner? Predictably, no. Rajeev takes a U-Turn, and the film ends with 6395795 ... what’s that you asked? Check out the film!

Maa Thuri! So you could predict all this from the promos? But, could you predict that you might be severely injured by laughing and falling off? Fasten your seat belts and watch, ‘coz Ishq Vishq is funny vunny!

Maa Thuri! Apart from Maa Thuri, the dialogues are witty and hilarious, full of one-liners, and the usual wisecracks. Choreography and cinematography excellent. The music is decent, although no song is all that great, either.

Maa Thuri! Finally an excellent actor! Shahid Kapur, son of acclaimed actors Pankaj Kapur and Neelima Aazmi, is a complete natural. Although he does resemble ShahRukh in quite a few scenes, both acting-wise and looks-wise, resembling SRK is infact in his favour! Shahid dances effortlessly, has a marvelous sense of comic timing and is good in the emotional sequences, too! In short, he needs to prepare his speechwhich he will deliver while collecting the Best Debut statuette! Amrita Rao looks good, and acts fairly well. Her expressions are good, though her dialogue delivery could be improved upon. Shenaz looks good. (Maa Thuri! Not good … in fact great! ) However, her acting disappoints. Among the rest, Love Guru Yash Tonk is hilarious and Vishal Malhotra, as Mambo, acts well. A special mention for the fat Parag, who keeps assuring his Mama on the phone that he will not eat … note, while munching on a burger and fries!

All in all, Ishq Vishq, though predictable, is a must see, simple because of the hilarious dialogues and situations, and the star of tomorrow, ShahR … oops, Shahid !
