Speaking in totally unbiased terms JK has really been a let-down from what would be expected from a **government funded central university**. Though the college manages to sustain a fairly progressive stand in the modern education scenario, it lacks the few fundamental features that are perhaps needed to cope with the fast paced change in mindset of new students.
Up until 2008 admission was purely based on a written test and as sources within the institute state "We had to delibirately take students in courses and it was even worse with SC/STs as they had very less competition. Like 10 people competing for 50 seats, their admission was garunteed and the results were disappointing." But now because of the inclusion of JK in the AIEEE admission spectrum, things have changed only marginally. Those from the metros be warned that the **uber-conservative mindsets** of the seniors here can really twist your heads.
The inadequacy of the functions here can really be commended. Though I like to consider myself a very peaceful person, even I am forced to write about the biased judging during the annual and freshers function. As true it is for perhaps any college, the **Inter-student Politics** in the year 2008-09 was most definately the maximum I have witnessed. If you dont play their mind games rest-assured be prepared for boycotting and isolation.
Hostels here arent that hunky-dorey. In the girls hostel, they dont have hostel wide **internet access** just localized to a single cyber cafe and in the boys hostel (Most probably Shatabdi is what youll be assigned), getting a working internet connection is just as easy as finding pandoras box. Better to bring along your own laptop and get a cable to your room than use the public computers. And yes the university proxy being surveiled by the self-righteous moral-policing Prof. RR Tewari.
All and all this place is for those who are **mainstream** for any counter-mainstream personell, might as well just quit while theres still time.
