~* But Pappu Can Make A Hit Film Saala*~

The most glorious years in one’s life: Sitting in the canteen, hogging cheap fast food, trying to lay matchmakers amongst friends, having farewell parties after exams and blah blah. Abbas Tyrewala brings it back to you and well, not me, because I’m still in college, thank you very much. The film tries to showcase the pathos of  platonic relationships between college students, and succeeds due to its characters which are very real. The magic and romance of youth is captured well in the movie: picnic trips et all.

The film has Imran Khan, nephew of Aamir Khan, and Genelia D’Souza in the lead role. If you’ll check facebook, you’ll realise that both these actors have clicked in their roles of Jay and Aditi. They had over 2000 fans each the last time I cheked, which was over 48 hours ago. Their tryst with friendship is deep, so much so that even Aditi’s parents think that Jay is in love with their tomboyish daughter. But oh no, according to them, their relationship is strictly platonic and not headed towards marriage. Even their friends are surprised to find that they aren’t dating! The movie deals with the confusion of being young quite adeptly. You can relate to the fact that the only issues in these peoples’ lives are the social issues, since everyone has been in that stage of life at sometime or the other.

So when Jay starts dating Meghna, whom he rescues from supoosedly hooliganistic vandals , Aditi is happy for her friend. But then she realises that she is in love with Jay! Surprise Surprise. The viewer isn’t shocked at this twist, but it is quite easy to feel empathetic towards Aditi.

The music is amazing: Kabhi Kabhi Aditi is a youthful song to listen to when you’re thinking of your girl-best-friend. Pappu Cant Dance Saala was rumoured to be dedicated to Salman Khan, but is a peppy dance number. I find the dance choeography fresh and refreshing. Its a lot of fun to dance to at parties! Naseeruddin Shah entertains in a brief appearance. I will not tell you the other actors who make a special appearance. it sort of spoils the fun.

Overall its a cute flick to watch if you’ve been missing your friends of late or if you’re in college or if you’re having a 10 year college reuinion. Much better than Kuch Kuch Hota hai for sure! And oh yeah, this is a CLEAN college flick, not those American Pie types! Just wish that the secnd half was better!
