JEM is a great film by all rights. Agree that the movie has its flaws, but at the end of the day, it’s the positives that outweigh the negatives. It’s the performances, music and overall look that makes JEM a great experience!
Everyone knows the story, so I won’t talk about it!
First the negatives. Editing was not so good in the film. Now, this is sad because Shrish is an editor, and I feel that he did a better job in Main Hoon Na rather on his own film. Second, the first half does make you feel restless at time. Like there are 3 songs in the first hour, and basically everything is a storytelling. Third, I don’t see the purpose of Anupam Kher being a dwarf in the film, it serves no purpose. Fourth, it’s sad to see Sajid not promoting this film well. This movie has a lot of potential to do great, but that’s why Don did better first week due to weak promos. If the movie flops (hopefully it doesn’t), then its Sajid to blame here.
Now to the positives. Shrish has done a great job in this film, considering it’s his first film. Agree, it’s your first time, there are mistakes, but he makes the most out of it. His overall look of the film and the certain scenes that he has handled are great, and I’m sure, he will be a future of Bollywood. It’s good to see a new-time director attempt a film like this, rather than seeing Farhan, an experienced director, wasting Don.
Music is a huge plus-point in this film. Every song in this film is great on-screen. Humko Maalum Hai, Ajnabi Shaher, Jaane Na Jaane, Kubool Kar Le, and Udh Da Na are great numbers, but it’s Sau Dard that steals it. Sau Dard should get nominated for Lyrics and Playback Singer. Anu Malik deserve a nomination for this wonderful score.
Now the performance, Akshay Kumar is a revelation. He was great as the geek. He strikes with a wonderful performance, and his laughter was great. Overall, superb job Akki, you deserve a nomination!
I was quite disappointed with Priety, but she has done her part well here. She compliments both stars well and she has wonderful chemistry.
However, it’s our Box-Office hero Salman Khan who steals it. Finally, a director shows Salman true potential. He was great in the comedy and even the emotional scenes. This movie proves that Salman is truly underrated, and with a great script, Salman can do wonders with it. I hope he gets nominated in the film!
It’s the Salman-Akki combo that makes the film what it is. They have great chemistry and you can see they are comfortable working together. Could this combo be the next Amitabh-Shashi of this generation, I really hope so!
The overall look of the film is grand, and it’s great to see it on the big screen.
Hence, has all the potential to great at the BO. Forget the lame promos that Sajid did, JEM is worth seeing on the big screen. Agree, people may not like it, however, what people has to realize that its Shrish first film and he did well as a first-timer. I’m telling you that JEM is better than Don anyday. So, go to the nearest theatre and enjoy JEM. Hopefully, the movies picks up very well at the BO
