One went into the film with trepidation and doubt as to its merit.Coz the title was ancient and the star cast looking uninspiring..it was low on promotion, first time director known only as farha khans long haired, boyish hubby. In other words, nothing to get you all kicked about.
Therefore one is not too sure whether this contributed in finally making it come as a pleasant surprise. One was not much impressed in the first half..the effort to be different was on the verge of being idiotic at times. The song with the midgts etc was big put off. The momentum, story and pace gathered only in the second half.
Now the director proved his mettle. He was in control of the emotional pitch. The story revealed itself effortlessly and was plainly enjoyable.
Preity has never looked as beautiful. Salman came up with a heart warming performance after AEONS. Akshay Kumar was okay..he has proved hmself in such roles often.The movie belonged to Salman.
It is definitely worth seeing..Farhas choreography in a few songs is a major contributory factor..In fact, jannemann should be considered as success on a platter for her husband. Never would he have had the opportunity to work with these stars in this budget.. Lets face it , with lesser stars, the film would hve flopped miserably.
Just good stories or direction does not a hit make..many a ship has sunk unwatched since the budget required was not given to the director. Here the lavishness of the Producer thanks to the good books of Farha who ties rakhi to Sajid nadiadwala her hubby was given the debut reserved previously for aditya Chopras, Sooraj barjatyas, Karan johars of bollywood.
So this debut was in perfect conditions and circumstances..Just the extras used must have cost almost a crore..He could have asked for the moon..How fair is that??
All the same, the second half saved the film..it was entertaining, and emotional.
One hopes that he does not turn out to be a one film wonder like Farhan ..his second film will tell it all.
