A heart wants what it wants, howsoever difficult

Love happens when everyone else looks at you like you are strange but you feel like your heart is tugging at you to run after what it seeks at any cost. That is the angle Yash Chopra has taken for the movie. To start with it is a trademark Yash Raj film, not calling it a stereotype but I love the way they begin a movie. Love is never a well understood emotion specially because for no 2 people it is the same. However it is true that it makes one weak and strong at the same time - it makes us work harder towards attaining it & makes us sacrifice. That’s the basic outline of the movie.

I shall not give out spoilers but I definetly enjoyed the movie and I’m pretty sure most of them will. Made by the very legend who gave us DDLJ & Veer Zaara. Being his final movie I’m sure fans of Yashji will remember him throught Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Shah Rukh Khan’s portrayal of army Major Samar Anand is his finest since Chak De & Rab Ne Banadi Jodi. Anushka Sharma(journalist Akira Rai) definetly did a great job in acting as a bubbly energetic girl but with apparent vulnerabilities, more like the happy face is a mask to cover her true feelings on love. Katrina’s acting though questionable thus far definetly has stepped up and I was surprised at her portrayal of very strong emotions of her character Meera with little effort. The usual scenic locales of Kashmir & London were shot tastefully and will appeal to audiences worldwide and might even put the beauty of Kashmir on the map globally. Aesthetics is top notch as expected and the romance is strong and atleast I found it a welcome movie.

The movie duration is a little longer than a few of those this year but I think that’s hardly a reason to complain as this was Yashji’s last movie and he has the right to make sure he expresses what he felt best and put his all into it which is evident. Like I said its all perspective and I could easily sit for that long as the story held me captive. Certain scenes like the B-Boying scene were long but not unnecessary, as it explains certain things of the main story as well. Coming to the main story by itself its a classic triangle romance with a high level of unpredictability in this one towards the end with layers of curiosity inducing plots comparatively well woven into each other Cliched for some but worth the watch. The melodious soul stirring music is written by Gulzar and composed by Rehman so of course so no complaints there. It was anything but disappointing for me. Adi Chopra did a great job with an original poem. Anushka & Katrina complimented each other well contrary to my belief and it totally surprised me . Katrina’s portayal of an insecure woman seeking balance in her life in her own quirky way that exposes her weaknesses is quite unique. Everyone is the way they are because of what they have experienced before in their life and they pray and grow strong to prevent it from happening to them or others & this is what the movie explores. Anupam Kher, Nitu Singh & Rishi Kapoor added a nice touch to the story. Aur jahan humare Shah Rukh saab ki baat hai - iss Pathan da koi jawab nahi.  Definetly a watch.
