After
going through a marathon week consisting of vivas and project report
submissions, we finally decided it was time for us to take a
break. So, off we went embarking on what I thought would be another
perilous journey going by past bollywood movie experiences. Our only
hope were the refreshing promos and the rave mreviews that the movie
had received. But, after watching inexplicable and meaningless stuff like
partner and jhoom, I had to see to believe....
As
the movie began I thought I was watching Pushpak 2 or something like
that. For people who are confused Pushpak was a silent movie made in the
80s(and the only silent movie I have watched). We waited and waited as a
morose looking shahid waded across the screen and did not speak a
word.Little did we know this was just a build up to introduce Kareenas
character Geet who is the exact alter ego of our male protagonist..
.
A
couple of missed trains, boy helps girl to reach her lover, the
predictable bollywood style family of Geet who has already fixed up her
wedding with someone else & finally boy and girl realise they are
in love and we have our happy ending.Does this sound cliched??Well, it
would considering that most bollywood movies have a plotline akin to
this!!!But, guys the one thing or a couple of things that work for this
movie are its refreshing treatment by the director and the awesome
chemistry between the lead pair.Yes, they might have contorversies
galore going on in their personal life but their chemistry on screen is
mesmerizing and is the highlight of this movie...
What
also works for this movie is the characterization!!I mean the
characters are believable(and not over the top as in other bolly
movies) and at the same time exact opposites basically reemphasizng the
philosophy "opposites attract".I felt the filmmaker also trying to
justify the philosophy "Alls fair in love" by using Shahids mothers
character. But, not much of an explanation has been provided. In fact, in
the whole movie there hasnt been much attention paid to detail and the
movie tries hard to be as contemporary and light hearted as possible...
Also, another
aspect of the movie which deserves a mention is the music. There are two
or three nice hummable tunes likes yeh ish hai, mauja hi mauja and
nagada nagada, though a couple of songs in the middle could be cut
down. This said, the songs never slow down the pace of the movie and take
the story forward. All in all Jab We Met deserves a lot of credit for the
way it has been handled with commendable performances from the cast.I
suggest you go watch this movie just for the awesome chemistry between
shahid and kareena as well the fantastic on screen characters(for once
believable)which they portray as Geet and Aditya. So, finally we met.....
Ps:The title meant finally a bollywood movie didnt disappoint me and met my expectations......
