Jabalpur is a small sleepy town on the east of Madhya Pradesh. With an approximate population of 12 lakhs, it stands with pride having one of the High Courts of Madhya Pradesh.
I visited Jabalpur for a short trip recently. The town is small with pathetic roads, though few areas like the Cantt area does have good roads. The transport system is bad and the ricks will charge exhorbitantly! It will be good if you have your transport pre booked for safety and peace!
Few places we visited on a 3 day trip were:
-Dhuandhar Waterfalls(Bhedaghat):
Stunning is the word that comes to my mind! Very beautiful display of natures work. The path that leads to the main waterfalls is strewn with people selling stuff, which can be a bit annoying since it snatches away the serenity of the place. There is a bazaar that sells everything from bags to marble statues to fruits and vegetables. I loved the ropeway that travels over the falls and provides a breath taking view of the falls. After the ropeway ride, we went ahead and did the boat ride which was an exhilarating experience. The boat goes close to the Marble Rocks, which are white and beautiful! Truly a spectacle to see! Oh by the way, Asoka movies song was shot here:)
Time spent: 3 hrs
-Chausath Jogini:64 stone carvings of Hindu godessess. The temple is small but really beautifully to see. Aurangzeb during his reign, had destroyed few of the stone carvings. But the carvings are still a treat to see.
Time Spent:30mins
-Madan Mahal Fort: Also called Rani Durgavati Fort. It is a small fort on the outskirts of the city. It was created to.protect the city from invasion. The fort is average and can be skipped if constraint of time is there.
Time spent:30mins
-Balancing Rock: 13tonnes Rock that rests on a 4.5inch base. Well maintained and looked great! But similar ones are in Gujarat.
Time spent: 15mins
-Pisanhari ki Madhiya: A Jain Temple that has beautiful carvings. Stunning display of colours on all carvings. Its atop a hill, so lot of walking and climbing. Fun part is you can see the whole city once you are on top:)
Time spent: 1hr
-Jilhari Ghat: Also called Narmada ghat. Famous because Mahatma Gandhis ashes were scattered here. Calm and serene place. The only noise you hear is of water flowing:) Though many people come here to bathe and wash clothes.
Time spent 30mins
Last Word: Must visit for the Dhuandhar Falls. Recommending!
