Well! MS Pals, I am surprised to see no review on this great spirit.
It has a long history behind this malt. I was introduced to this brand back in 2000 when one of my room mate in Connecticut got it for an weekend bash. Being not a regular drinker I was reluctant to try out, as I thought this would be one of those cheap scotch who leave bad taste and experience behind.
First of all this is not a scotch, rather a whisky with charcoal mellowing.Charcoal-mellowing refers to a process used to make Tennessee whiskey, such as Jack Daniels. The process involves slowly dripping the newly made whiskey through giant containers hard-packed with 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal. The process takes ten days, and during this time the whiskey absorbs the essence of the charcoal, refining the spirit and giving it a unique flavor and aroma. And thats what makes this diff. than rest of us.
Recommended shot would be 30ml drink on the rock. Well thats how you wont loose or dilute the real aroma of the drink. Smaller sips, wet your mouth and inhale the drink in, instead of taking big gulps and getting drunk faster. Some argue Jack n Coke make best combination but many others like me argue Jack on the Rock is the BEST.
Whiskey barrels are assembled from American White Oak, and thats because American White Oak just happens to have the right combination of compounds to create the tastiest whiskey. These compounds, referred to as such because they have really confusing names, are exposed when the insides of the barrels are charred by open flame.
As the whiskey ages inside the barrel, the wood contracts and expands (as everything does) with changes in the surrounding climate. The whiskey is allowed to move in and out of the wood as this happens, and the exposed compounds mix with the whiskey. The mixing gives the whiskey a smoky flavor and an amber tint. And you thought wood was only good for building little forts.
For a great evening, I would recommend 2-3 drinks. And I suggest you get some grill, kabab, or tandoor kind of side dish along with it. Less oily and high on aroma would make perfect company to this drink. I strongly discourage drinking this during day time or while on any outing. Best time to enjoy JD is in the Evening.
It wasnt available in India until recently. Then I saw the Ad that they are launching it in one of the Suburban Pub in Mumbai called, Totos garage. Did I miss the chance, NoWay!
Bunch of friends, great ambience and my all time favorite drink in hand, made the evening Superb!!
Enjoy! and have a great evening with JD (Thats what we all call it in my gang) on the rock.
P.S. Dont drive after drink. You risk others life as well as yours.
