Jadavpur University has achieved fame and notoriety worldwide in recent times.It has
acquired a five star excellence in indiscipline and the spirit of learning (in a temple of learning)
and apolitical teaching is conspicuous by its absence.I witnessed many so-called professors
instigating students and scholars against the decisions of the Respectable Vice-Chancellor.
Did it ever happen when Dr. Triguna Sen was the V.C.at Jadavpur University?Many have
witnessed Ms.Nilanjana Gupta (JUTA) and others instigating students with a handmike before
the police action.Is this desirable within the campus of the University?This is the fourth or fifth
time a Vice-Chancellor has been asked to resign on flimsy grounds.A member can be
included from another University or Institution in the Enquiry Committee, but let us not wreck
the Enquiry Committee itself and gherao the V.C., Registrar, Controller etc. till 2:00 a, m, past
midnight.The V.C.tried his utmost to pacify the students and requested them to leave the
campus and return home or disperse.They were a unruly mob and yelling in filthy language.
The V.C.had no other option, but to call the police to lift this inhuman gherao and let the
officers go back home.The students violated the rules of the campus by overstaying after
8:00 p.m. A lot of teachers here are politically motivated to serve the agenda of politicians
outside the University.These bunch of instigators (JUTA) have been the root cause of
indiscipline all over the University and His Excellency, the Governor has scrutinized the
different angles of the fiasco caused by a few vested interests to grind their wheel.We need
to extend wholehearted co-operation to the permanent Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abhijit
Chakrabarty from the civil society and root out indiscipline from the campus with a firm
hand.Who are suffering on account of the class boycott and anarchy within the campus?
Of course, the dedicated students, their guardians and sincere teachers.Who cares for them
in this age of dirty murky politics?I only pray that sanity would prevail amongst the derailed
teachers and politicians so that a temple of learning could start functioning normally. Any guardian can observe the indiscipline in boys’ and girls’ hostel of the University’
where drugs, women and liquor rule the nights everyday.What can a student aspire to become
in such an atmosphere?Ragging of freshers is rampant, but nobody turns up to lodge
complaint for fear of reprisals.The authorities should come forward with specific Action Taken
Report instead of suppressing the burning issues and scandals.I keep my fingers crossed
since I believe that a new administration would rise from the ashes left behind by politically
motivated teachers and students led astray.
