The music of James is melodious but not out of this world. Suraj ki kirano is that pseudo romantic song which is so typical of a masala movie. The surprise element of this song is the sensuous voice of Shweta Pundit, That small girl who made an appearance first in the kids SaRaGaMa on Zee a few years ago has transformed into a musical diva. In fact, till I checked the credits I thought it was Alisha Chinoi. Sonu is good.
The title track has been sung well by Sunidhi but the tune has a Khallas feel to it. And Sunidhi should really give up this genre of singing for a while or else, she will start getting monotonous. The lyrics though are ridiculous. Shayars like Majrooh would turn in their graves on hearing the ‘poetry’ in “Woh Hero hai hero, Aayega tumko karega zero”. Oh Puhleeze!!!
Jaan hai is a roothna mana type of song, sung well by Sonu Nigam and another SaReGaMa find Shreya Ghoshal. The tune is good but it again seems inspired by the Caravan classic “Ab jo mile hain to bahon ko…” Sindoori Aasman hai is yet another duet by Sonu and Shweta (She is really the find of the album). This sounds like a mix between Zehreela Zehreela Pyar and Pyar yeh jaane kaisa hai Zindagi jeene ka naam hai is a blend of Kaisi paheli zindagani and Zindagi daud hai. But it is the pick of the album.
Shweta again surprises. Pundit Jasraj will surely be proud of her varied vocal range. If you can forget the nagging similarities of the tunes with some song you have heard somewhere, then the album is worth listening to. Good job by Nitin Raikwar, Prasanna Shekhar and Bapi-Tutul.
