Janasheen : Cast : Celina Jaitley, Fardeen Khan, Feroz Khan, Harsh Chayya, Yash Tonk, Kashmira Shah, Archana Puransingh, Johny Lever.
Produced/Directed : Feroz Khan
Synopsis : Lucky Kapoor (Fardeen Khan), leaves India as a child to accompany his cancer-ailing mother to Australia, where they live with Aunt Martha (Archana Puransingh). His father, Verendra Kapoor (Harsh Chayya) stays back in India taking care of their nightclub Angaara. Jessica (Celina Jaitley) and her brother Max (Yash Tonk) are orphans of a dysfunctional family and Harsh Chayya takes them under his canopy.
Lucky Kapoor grows up to hate his father who never visited his mother during her last days. Aunt Martha is equally hostile to Virendra Kapoor. Enter Saba Karim (Feroz Khan), a Afghan bussinessman, who sees his dead son in Lucky Kapoor. Unaware of the fact that Virendra Kapoor is Luckys dad, he kills him in a bussiness deal gone sour. A father-son relationship emerges between Lucky and Saba Karim, both unaware of each others backgrounds. What happens when the truth comes out is what the movie is all about. Of course there are sub-plots here and there, about Jessicas childhood, about Luckys racing career, and the double crossing Tina (Kashmira Shah).
Review : One word to describe the movie : EXCELLENT !
Janasheen is the kind of movie that Bollywood is all about. It has a little bit of everything : Excellent songs, beautiful women, cool looking bikes, an explosive Feroz Khan, and a decent, if not great performance by the rest of the cast. Comparing it to a movie like Kal Ho Na Ho would be folly, as they belong to completely different genres. But neither one is less enjoyable than the other.
After the dismal (and crappy) Prem Aggan, Feroz Khan makes an excellent come back with Janasheen. He has given FK fans what the are looking for. This is a typical Feroz Khan movie. The man has epitomized and formed his own genre when it comes to film making. Yes, there is a club-scene, yes, there is a vamp, yes, this is a semi-revenge drama.
The only thing that goes against the movie are the corny special effects and a little bit of constipated acting by Fardeen Khan in the climax, the Johnny Lever track could also be avoided. In fact, it is high time for Johnny Lever to retire. Celina Jaitley is extremely beautiful, and like all FK movies, showing her assets is her only job.
The star of the movie no doubt is Feroz Khan as Saba Karim. He gets the best of the best dialgoues, and has the most terrific screen presence. We would love to see him in more movies. He carries off his outrageous character with so much conviction that it could put all the big screen seniors to shame. He shouldve been in Kaante instead of AB.
If great music, great entertainment, and excellent visuals are what Bollywood is all about, then Janasheen takes a 10/10. Worth a watch.
