The title is a song from Aap Ki Kasam which was penned by the late Anand Bakshi. From a tv interview I know that its Javed Akhtars all-time favourite song.Welcome to my mouthshut review on Bollywood personality Javed Akhtar and hey its my 401st review! Now isnt that funny!
To the work at hand.Javed Akhtar is the son of poet-lyricist Jan Nissar Akhtar.Javed Saab was a writer originally.Along with collaborator Salim Khan he turned out some fine movie scripts the first of which(according to my data) was Haathi Mera Saathi(1971).
Salim-Javed are certainly the most gifted and celebrated bollywood screenwriters of all time.Hey, they wrote Sholay. Now who can beat that.Well Javed Saab started writing songs with Silsila(1981).the first ever song he wrote is perhaps still his best, Dekha Ek Khwab Toh Yeh Silsilay Huay/Zindagi Ki Rah Mein Hai Gul Khilay Huay/Yeh Gila Hai Aapki Nigahon Se/Phool Bhi Ho Darmiyan Toh Phasle Huay.
It was lyrical, it was sensitive and it was romantic.Just the emotions that later defined the Yash Chopra genre of Hindi movies. Now, Javed Saab has written songs for only a handful of films. But each creation of his is a masterpiece.
Writing mainly in hindustani which to my knowledge is hindi mixed with urdu(correct me if I am wrong), Javed saab has awesome command over his language. He can use words to accurately describe and magnify every little aspect of our life and thinking. He understands the indian mindset rather well and moulds his compositions accordingly.
His understanding of the techniques of poetry and the nuances of contemporary music is superior to every other poet, even Gulzar. He is the conformist and yet the rebel because he sticks to the rulebook so much.Javed Akthar is certainly the tallest song-writer in Bollywood and I am certainly not discussing his height.
