JEEVAN – Meaning life

And this place was my life in my early struggling days in Mumbai.

I was surprised to see this place listed as one, when in fact there are two parts to this restaurant. One is a bar-cum-restaurant and the other is a restaurant where you get everything from a Pav-Bhaji to a full thali.

I was once a regular at this place when I first moved over to Mumbai, as I did not have a place of my own or know of other eateries where they served a pure vegetarian thali – you see I’m a person who is used to eating curries and chapatis at least once a day, without which I do not feel as if I have had a good meal!

Now I can name a few hundred places around Mumbai where we only get a pure vegetarian thali but also Gujrati thalis at that.

Having said that ….

I still visit Jeevan, as I am a kinda guy who gets attached to things, places and people very quickly. Jeevan provided me with a lifeline when I was a stranger in the city and GOOD FOOD too.

Jeevna restaurant (I have not visited the bar yet!), serves all sorts of dishes, catering to every taste and palate, ranging from simple snacks like Pav-Bhaji, Idlis, Wadas etc to thalis, Punjabi dishes and Chinese. The food is fresh and tastes good.

Some of the dishes I have tried and recommend are

Vegetable kofta

Palak Panner

Vegetable Makhanee

AND where else can you get a full meal at only 30 rupees?

As for the decor, not much to look at, but is clean. The waiters are okay and always buzzing around like as the place is almost always busy.

If you are ever in Vile Parle (East), I suggest you try this place. Right opposite the station and next to the famous, (or infamous) Rama Krishna restaurant. The place is open from early morning to late at night.

Bon appetite
