Patient : "Doctor doctor, my side hurts very bad. I cant stand it"Doctor : "why dont you come in, lie down on the bed over there, make yourself as comfortable as you can and I shall be with you in just a moment."
This sense of wellbeing, a polite and gentle approach and wise young doctors who know their stuff are the kind of doctors that you will come across at Jehangir Hospital.
Ok, maybe all are not so young, a few of them are in their mid 40s but you know what they say . . they older the wiser. The nurses are really polite as well, experience and dedicated and most of them are from Kerela I must add.
I must mention that most of the doctors in Jehangir are MBBS doctors, ie. Bachelors of MEdicine and Bachelors of Surgery which is basically western allopathic medicine. This is in contrast ot other hospitals such as Ruby Hall, Inamdar ( which is atrocious) which employ Ayurvedic and Unani doctors under the pretext of allopathic doctors.
I dont have anything against these guys (ayurvedic and unani practitioners) but I must say that western allopathic medicine is an exacting science and it is not to be wielded by someone who has an inadequate knowledge and experience base. Needless to say you all know where to go in the event of hospitalization or an emergency.
Back to Jehangir . .. . .. . Their emergency department is THE BEST in the city. 1066 which is an emergency service that picks up ill patients in the event of an emergency is their brainchild. They are prompt and efficient and they have a nearly 99 percent save rate.
The hand that wields the life saving grace. In short, they are the best. Dr. Manisha is the Head of Department and she is competent, wise and personable. It is good to work under her guidance. It is rare to come across people who teach well while practicing, Jehangir has such staff that exemplify such very ideals.
A 6 bedded emergency department, another bed for an emergency resuscitation room, a triage in the event of a large sudden patient load (eg an accident), a minor Operation Theatre and a miscellaneous room convinces you that they know what they are doing.
And trust me they do. This is only the Emergency and Casualty Department. So you can well imagine the rest of the hospital. A 350 bedded hospital which has specialists in every single specialty conceivable. Laproscopic surgeries, angioplasties, arthroscopies, transplants are everyday run of the mill here. You can be rest assured that your surgery or treatment will not be such that you feel experimented upon or guinea pig like material.
I can assure you of quality and expertise and a speedy recovery. It is expensive, but in todays age of capitalism money is a much required tool.
Jehangir is a private enterprise and all things said and done, they require money to survive. If you want to be treated by people who really love medicine and have spent their lives becoming the best, it is fair that their remuneration financially should burn a small hole in your pocket. :)
In the end, I would like to say that please go to Jehangir if you want quality treatment by experienced health care professionals. It is in short, the best and most reputable hospitals in Pune.
I was born there more than 25 years ago. I worked there 25 years later. It was a brilliant experience.
