One looks forward
to a good meal when one goes to a nice restaurant but a good
eating experience in an airline is rare . Jet Air is an exception. I have always had
reasonably good meals on their domestic flights but in Jet Privilege on my way
to Singapore and back, I was hugely impressed with the lunch on the way out
and breakfast on the way back.
Before lunch, on the way out, they
placed an excellent wine and liquor menu in front of us. The choice included Chateau-du-PapeEGuigal (red wine ) Sancerre Pascal Jolivet (white wine) and Veuve cliquot ponsardin brut (champagne). Though I am no connoiseur , I gave the excellent whiskeys a miss and enjoyed the red.
Chicken picatta , an exotic vegetable tart, keerai masiyal and kerala chemmeen curry are still remembered by my palate. A so-so cup of coffee was followed by a really nice glass of Grahams twenty year
old port.
A perfect prelude to the nap that followed !
On the way back, melon , water
melon, kiwi, strawberry , pineapple, kicked off breakfast followed by
the predictable "continental" corn flakes, muesli,
flavored youghurt, croissants and rolls. Just as I was folding my napkin assuming that breakfast was over, they asked if I wanted some South Indian stuff !!
Update : Four trips later my opinion still stands, but with one warning : On the way back try avoid the South Indian Veg stuff on the breakfast menu !! Its not difficult as there is plenty of other, really good stuff on the menu..
