I was very confused and nervous while booking tickets for my 7 months pregnant wife as I didn’t wanted to send her by train due to the fact that journey to our home town takes more than 20 hrs even if we take the fastest possible train and the shortest possible route, than I checked the options available by air and as I knew from the very start that there were no direct flights from Hyderabad to Indore so I had no option but to give her a break journey via Delhi or Mumbai. Although this gave us an opportunity to oblige one of our cousins in Mumbai as he was complaining all the time that we had not met him for the last couple of years.
Booking was amazingly simple as the world has gone so hi-tech. Just logon to their website https://jetairways.com. Check the availability, rates, dates etc, pay online and take the printout of the ticket and you are ready to fly. Since I booked 15 days earlier – I got a good price too. The same printout works as an entry ticket to the airport and you can even get your luggage checked and sealed by showing the same. Thereby you can move on to the check in counter and get your boarding pass. Handover the check in baggage, get a tag hooked up to your hand baggage. Move on to the security check once announced, pass through the metal detector, a little of frisking by the staff, board the bus to the craft and you are ready to go.
Our Journey: We came to Mumbai by Air Deccan’s evening flight which was as usual running late a couple of hours, but I am not complaining as they claim themselves to be “low cost airline” and I don’t mind that as I was not running after time here. She had her morning flight from Mumbai to Indore and I had to return back to Hyderabad once I see her off due to the time constraint and leaves I just couldnt go with her. I was surprised to see that “Jet Airways” has 24 counters in Mumbai Airport out of I believe a total of 32 or so. There ground staff is one of the best in Domestic Airlines at least, I can say that by seeing the way they were handling the huge traffic. Damn smart people and very professional.
I had traveled with them for about 6 times in the past – although I was a bachelor at that time so service didn’t made so much of difference to me as whenever I traveled I carried hardly any luggage with me except for a hand bag and didn’t cared a cent about anything as far as everything was on time and I got my window seat. But this time it was different as it was not me who was traveling and in what condition?
Now the kind of treatment my wife got from Jet’s staff is something I need to tell you about. The moment she boarded the plane, was welcomed by ever warming staff of Jet. The first air hostess she encountered asked her “Mam, are you expecting?” and as she affirmed to it, Immediately she was escorted to her seat which was a Window Seat on the emergency exit gate of the aircraft so the air hostess offered her another window seat right behind the emergency exit as that was not advisable for her to sit there. The moment she took her seat the same girl went and came back with a couple of pillows and a blanket to make her more comfortable – this was without her asking for it. She made sure that the middle seat was left empty, as there was not so huge traffic on that route. She checked with my wifey twice before the take off if she needed anything at all.
Flight was right on time. After take off – as usual they served the welcome drink and a little bit later came up with Breakfast pack, which included an option of Tea or coffee, Upma with coconut chutney, Cutlet, One Bread Bun with Jam and Butter as usual. According to my wife, the in-flight magazine was very good and she saw a couple of people folding it and taking along apart from the sugar pouches, mint, mouth fresheners and tooth picks as well - which was very funny. Surprisingly she too took the water bottle along for her cousin as the size of the bottle is too cute and its not available in the market for sale.
It took not more than 50 minutes to one hour to reach Indore, the moment the flight landed, they made sure that it was she who got down first and was being escorted by one Air Hostess in front and one on Back as if she is some VIP. She was too glad to tell me that. Moreso to top it all, once she started walking back to Terminal - she was wished by Jet Staff again "Gud Luck Madam" with a smile. Indore Airport is too small hence no buses to ferry the passengers and you need to take a casual walk to go in and wait for your luggage.
The last but not the least - she did got helped with her luggage too as she was carrying a big Suitcase and that was too my cause of concern that how will she take it off the conveyor belt ?
I was too glad to know the service and support she got from Jet, and I am doubly sure that none of other airlines would have bothered to give that kind of a service if it was not for Jet Airways.
I am looking forward to her homecoming with my prince / princess - lets see what we get once we travel with a little kid :)
