PROLOGUE
I wanted to relax in home this long weekend as I had some work pending. When I decided to watch some movies, my friend gave me the DVD he rented names “Jhankaar Beats” . I was very skeptical at first and then I remembered the rave reviews this movie had been getting and decided to give it a try. Was it a good thing to do? Yes. Surely it was. For the detailed review, read on. (He also had another DVD by the name of MPKDH. :-) )
INTRODUCTION
Pritish Nandy Communications is making somewhat of a niche, nouvelle-wave movie for the A-center audiences these days. “JB” is one more from their stable with same enrichment, beautiful art direction, breathtaking cinematography with a good direction. “JB” is a part hindi, part English movie mainly aimed at NRIs and the younger generations of Indian Urban youths. While this movie will be a hit overseas and in cities, it is sure to bomb nationally, box-office wise.
After “Sur” and “kaante” PNC has come up with another excellent movie. The director, Sujoy Ghosh has tried his hand at a fun-filled movie with a lot of funny moments and joyful instances. I think he tried to emulate the great Hrishida (Hrishikesh Mukherjee) , in conjuring up a delightful and enjoying scenes with an all-out humor and subtle poignancies. While he has a long way to go to even match Hrishida, he is surely a director to be watched closely. The post DCH hindi movie scenario has changed very much in enthralling the most urban cine-goers.
THE PLOT
This is one of the most predictable and bollywood formulaic story you can come across. If you watch this expecting a good story, you are surely mistaken. This movie is not a perfect fiction. If you look for a time pass, this is the perfect one, just like DCH.
This light comedy mainly revolves around two ad agency buddies Rishi(Rahul Bose) and Deep(Sanjay Suri). Deep is having a wonderful married life with his homemaker-wife Shanti(Juhi Chawla) and is expecting their second child. Rishi is going through a messy patch with his socialite wife Nicky (Rinke Khanna).
Both Rishi and Deep are made about Panchamda(R.D Burman and are trying to win the “Jhankaar Beats” competition. The movie surrounds this theme and also a third guy Neel(Shayan Munshi) , son of their boss who is trying to win the heart of Preethi (Riya Sen) .
Neel soon joins the troupe and to find whether Rishi makes up with Nicky, Neel gets Preethi, Do they win JB, watch this movie to the ending.

MY ANALYSIS
This movie totally blew away my expectations and made me watch it twice in a span of two days. This movie had so many generously peppered hilarious moments and touching scenes in a subtle manner. You never feel heavy for a minute. At the same time you are never overloaded with comic scene after another. It is a rightful mix of comedy and sentiments with a lesson for all cine-goers; all this without a heavy story. How about it?
The prime hero of this movie is the director Sujoy. I guess he is a Bengali who is so heavily influenced by Hrishida as well as Panchamda(R.D Burman). The movie has so many scenes proving my theory. He has wildly succeeded in making his maiden film a wonder to watch. He has made this movie with a story-line as thin as a wrigley’s chewing gum, a wonder to watch. Hat’s off to him and I am sure we haven’t heard the last of him yet.
The next two people in my list are the art-director & cinematographer. Oumang and Mazhar have done an excellent job altogether. Especially the Art Direction, which is a class apart. The rightful use of colors and the background made me wonder if the art direction was done by the art director of Le Fabuleux destin dAmélie Poulain (Amelie- Volker Schäfer ) (Watch out for my review on the same). There was not a movie which visually enthralled me by the right selection of colors and sets in the immediate past. Hat’s off to Oumang too.
The main actors who have excelled are Rahul, Sanjay And Juhi. Others have done their part really well. Riya and Rinkie are glamour dolls and Shayan has done his part well. The chemistry between Sanjay & Rahul makes the movie a watchable one. Their love for the inimitable R.D Burman (Panchamda) is a class act. The music directors have done a good job too. Juhi was simply wonderful. Where was she hiding all these days? Sanjay and Rahul will be a force to reckon with, in the near future.
BOTTOM LINE
Sujoy Ghosh has made an excellent movie. The brainy Pritish Nandy has made an excellent choice in choosing the right people and story for a winner, all the way. How could he be wrong, anyways? The winner of the movie is the comic scenes and the nice and daft control over the screenplay, which may look a trifle bit stretched at times. The comic scenes involving “condom ad”, the energetic neighbor, voluptuous lady in the office, nose-picking client from America are all a treat to watch.
Watch JHANKAAR BEATS today, without fail. It has good time comedy and make-you-feel-good moments all along.
TWO THUMBS UP
I hope you liked the review, please comment on, when you find some time
