.... Do tell me whats wrong with your films? Why do they always lack the sole ingredient which we as viewers want, and nothing else? When will the time come when youwould sit and think and discuss about the lack of stories in your films and go for some serious resurrection?
I have been thinking for the past couple of hours about the way you undertake your responsibilities as a producer. Ever since you have taken over Yash Raj films, there have been only two watchable films from your banner : Veer Zaara and Kabul Express. And the rest have been taking the public, who swear by your films, as granted. When you admit that a film like Neil n Nikki has nothing to attract viewers to the theatres, your people shout from the roftops three months before its release that it contains 21 smooches. Innovative marketing strategy. When you want a film of yours to break opening week records, you tell the world that Yash Rajs next would be the platform of two superstars who have never worked before - Aamir n Kajol, to come together. As far as the story goes, well.. who cares? these stars are enough to gather the crowd.. Oh yes, the Gujarat controversy will help it again. Result: a silly story with some shayaris thrown in to entertain the viewers. Aamir n Kajol deliver great performances, . What else do you require anyways. Story gayi tel lene. Picture superhit to ho jayegi na?
Oh yes, there was Bunty aur Babli too. Now in this case, Abhishek is neithera big star nor a good actor at that time to pull it to superhit status. Story and execution are ordinary too. So what should Aditya do here? Oh yes, get Amitabh in this. Both the Bachchans together for the first time. And add a foot tapping Kajra re to it too. Blockbuster guaranteed?
And when you have metro subjects, take Saif and Rani/Preity in lead roles and lift the theme of some Hollywood love story. It doesnt matter what crap it is. Just make sure music is great and locales are sttrictly foreign and actors are made to roam around in skimpy outfits & designer T-shirts which cost a regular employees gross monthly salary. Film will be at least an earner..
So Aaditya, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom is no different from the formulae films your banner has been producing for a hell of a long time. the most you have done with this film is think of an innovative story idea.. And whileitis interesting enough, execution (again) falls flat.. Hey wait a minute, in Jhoom Barabar Jhooms case it has to be Shaad Alis job.. ...
Shaad Ali? what? The same guy who directed Bunty aur Babli? Oops... keep him aside.. Bring Adi back.. Now what was I saying Adi.. Yeah, what is the problem with this films execution now...? Why cant you tell your director to stop being oversmart and concentrate on the kind of film he wants to make. Either let him make a full madcap film or an intelligent film. If he tries a combo of the two, its a disaster
Poor Anuraag Kashyap. I feel sorry for him. It was his story idea here. But the packaging obsessed YRF ruined it, making it look absolutely silly onscreen.
Talking of the film, it doesnt give you time to get used to it and seems all over the place within the first few minutes. And when you realize a so called story is being developed, you sense something is seriously wrong with the film. And by the time the first half is over, you become aware that it is terribly boring and painful to watch. The story starts from nowhere in the beginning and goes nowhere.
The second half is somewhat better than the first but still falls much short of being good. The twist in the story does make one sit up and notice but by the time it comes, you become too restless to even bother.
The humour comes in bits n pieces, Abhishek with his one liners tries hard to be funny but at many places, the jokes are tiresome and fail to evoke even a smile. Seems that the makers still have a DDLJ hangover and it shows in every mushy production of theirs.
Abhishek Bachchan as Ricky Thukral tries his best to impress. He is good in some scenes whereas in some he is over the top and annoying.
Bobby Deol doesnt impress much. It must be something to do with the character not been developed properly. more screen time would have probably helped.
Preity has rarely looked so gorgeous before. But when it comes to acting, she still finds it hard to rise above the average level. I have never been a fan of her acting and she proves it again with this role.
Lara Dutta suprises with a refreshingly good performance. Her range in the two diverse roles - one of a French Babe, and one of a desi prostitute isfun to watch. She comes across as one of the better things in the film
And Mr, Amitabh Bachchan , aap har jagah ghuse kyun rehte hain? Dont worry, we wont ever forget you. Now if you can please move ..??
Music is hummable. The album is one ofthe finest of the year so far. But the two songs which are shown in quick succession in that dance song are too loud and make the film look like an endlessBoogie Woogie dance competition.
Overall, a below average flick. I wont recommend it to anyone. Stay away from it even if youre planning a DVD watch.
