Jillunu oru kathal....(JOK) I would prefer to refer it this way other than sillunu oru kathal, aptly titled as we get the same feeling when we hear the songs.ARR .(The Boss) has answered the critics not with words but once again through his work.Ok now let us get into the actual work,
1.New York Nagaram:
Pick off the album....not because it has been sung by the master himself other than that it has got that magic of ARR in it.Got addicted to it on the first hearing itself.lyrics add more beauty to the song ...vaali has proved once again why he is the best in the field.The song starts with our boss humming and from that it takes off in top gear.The guitar is beautifully used throughout the song.Get a pair of good headphones so u can hear all those little sounds which are the characteristic of our BOSS.This song also has the sound of a chopper taking off, the sirens , crackling noise of a walkie.. talkie.The humming of the chorous adds beauty to the already mesmerizing song.
2.Munbe Va....:
Another great number from the master.The romantic song in the recent time.Surely this will be the national anthem among the youth.The song starts with a great keyboard (not sure abt the instrument) mindblowing piece followed by the great voice of shreya...(man I am falling in luv with her voice).On the first hearing I was taken by surprise by the chorous part "Rango....Rangoli....." only rahman can think like this man ...mindblowing.Then the song continues with shreya...and the place where naresh enters the songs is very good (this lad is going to make it big).Again the lyrics ...pure tamil https://lyrics....hats off to vaali sir.
3.Machakari:
Fast and peppy number....the vocals of vasundara and shanker has done justice to the song.Again good arrangements and mixing from our BOSS will sure rock all the discos and pubs...The song starts with vasundara singing the line without any music and followed by the music coming into picture...gr8 track man.We all know ARR’s music has many layers and this we can feel in this song...(need to hear with a quality headphones).Shankar mahadevan has done his job with ease..the places where he sings with a carnatic touch is very good.
Altogether this songs has to grow on u.
4.Kummi adi:
A very good folk number after "alaipauthey" Good beats and vocals. The song has varied vocals we have theni kunjaraniamma, sivachidambaram, naresh, swarnalatha..a typical village number.A run away hit among the masses.
5.Maaricham:
This one has to grow on u for sure.A different kind of a song which our tamil industry is not used to.I like the song after 7 hearings but now it is growing fast. Again a perfect example for ppl calling ARR as the trend setter.The album starts with the carolisa’s high pitch vocals and followed by the shattering of a glass ..awesome man (hear it in home theatre) It is amazing to see carolisa reaching the high pitch with ease....in the middle of the song we have a surprise in the form of mohamed aslam...he starts with a low pitch quite opposite to carolise ...pure magical.The way she says "gautham...gautham ..." in the song is very sexy.Hope the song features in the movie.
6.Maaza...Maaza:
This song is in the same genere like "thazuvuthu.." from Ah...AAh movie.Only difference is this is sung by SPB Charan....at times he resembles his father..has done a good job.Again shreya ..man what to say about her voice no words to describe it....This song will be good when seen on screen.
7.Jillunu oru kadal:
Coming to the title track....on the first hearing u will tend to say it is like "hello Mr.ethir katchi" from Iruvar ...it is true but if u listen again u can feel the difference this one is a complete Jazz without any indian touch to it.Tanvi has done comendable job ....and carries the song with ease.I can bet no other Music director can come up with such track.It is good to see the song playing in the trailer of the movie.
I can say that JOK is a complete package from our ARR who is trying to take our tamil film music to the next level as he did b4 with Roja...No one can give such different songs in one album.
My suggesition is Go and grab ur copy today already the music outlets are running out of stock.DO buy original CD dont hear the mp3’s my personel request.
