Rahman back to where he belongs!

It was a long time since Rahman got himself going in the Tamil industry. Everyone was longing to see something good from the little genius. There is no necessity for Rahman to prove his prowess, but there was this talk of Rahman’s genius dwindling. So, Sillunu Oru Kadhal happened, and now all I can get to read in the papers is how the songs of this movie have become chartbusters. It is always nice to see something positive ebb out of the critics. They do not give in easily and surely, Rahman deserves the accolades for his latest album. To put it in a single word, the album is fantastic. I have been listening to the songs without any interruption and it gets stimulating. As all of us are accustomed to, Rahman’s music grows on you, and this one is no different.

I can write about all the songs, but to me the song of the album undoubtedly is New York. The song is sung by ARR and his silky, soothing voice lends a perfect touch to this wonderful composition. Be it any movie, when Rahman lends his voice, you can expect something close to perfect. This song has some beautiful lyrics too, and the way ARR blends the lyrics with the music is nothing short of brilliant. One can really feel the emotions in the voice, as he talks about the loneliness stiffling him that confines him to a closed space with a candle light keeping him company. The pain and anguish gets us to really feel for the singer. The start to this song is provided by perfect use of guitar in what seems to be a serene and quiet setting.

The other songs are good, but I have been listening to this particular song for so long that I really cannot point out the positives or the negatives about the other songs. I just listened a couple of times to the other songs and the ARR trademark is easily visible. But, the title track sung by Tanvi did not seem to be too impressive. Maybe in typical Rahman style, it would grow upon you after some time.

For the next few days, it is Sillunu Oru Kadhal all the way.
