There is more to JISM......than skin

After weeks or month of its actual release I tried to watch JISM.......the film which i’ld never have dared to watch after seeing the promos, and also the fact that I dislike BIPASHA BASU furthur killed my interest in the film. But after a few recommendations I finally decided to watch it.......and contrary to what all I had thought about th film, it turned out to be quite a decent flick, with a soul......and not just a soft-porn, sex film as it was shown to be or as I had thought it to be.I always like FILM-MAKERS who dare to attempt something different.......and thats probably why I ended up liking the film.

I’ll not go into the STORY......but in short JISM is a romantic thriller, and is about a woman SONIA(BIPASHA) who uses men for her needs, and when tired of them gets them killed.......she even kills her husband(GULSHAN GROVER.......with the help of KABIR LAL(JOHN)who falls madly in love with her.But she uses him just coz she wants her husband’s property......she also tries to kill Kabir, but in the process ends up dying herself.

AMIT SAXENA has done a great job, for a first time director. The film is well made and executed and the treatment is slick and stylish. The interest is maintained throughout the film. There are few characters and the film moves on one track. The songs have also been used well......without hampering the narration.Since JISM is a bold film.......there are bound to be lots of skin show, passionate kissing scenes and stuff........but they have not been used just to sell the film, those scenes were required and that is why they are there in the film.Moreover.......those scenes have been asthetically shot, and I didn’t find them vulgar. There is far more cheaper stuff coming on TV.......atleast here everything was done or shown with a purpose.Overall a good sincere effort by AMIT SAXENA.

The film also had a good cast.JOHN ABRAHIM(let me gush over his looks first).......is very impressive, considering that this is his debut film.He had a very complex role with many shades......and he performed exceedingly well.I wish his voice was not dubbed in the film.BIPASHA BASU.......did all the acting with her looks and body language......she acted well in parts.........but she and JOHN share the most outstanding screen chemistry. GULSHAN GROVER was all-right.RANVIR SHEORY and VINAY PATHAK as JOHN’s freind were quite good.

The MUSIC of the film.......is splendid, the best I have heard in years. The songs are well written, composed and sung......with SHREYA GHOSAL being a revelation.MM KREEM deserves a special mention for his efforts in the film........the music enhances the mood of the film.My fav tracks from the film are.......JADOO, CHALO TUMKO LE KAR and SHIKAYAT.

Now to what I loved the most about the film is the look, feel and cinematography of the film. The sets and ambeince are brilliant.......and I don’t think PONDICHERRY(the whole film has been extensively shot in Pondicherry)has been so beautifuuly captured as in this film.......it looks divine. The light, colour and shades also give the film a very dark exotic look. The back-ground music is also beautiful......the sound of wind-chimes when John nd Bipasha meet......also has been well-used, it all-together gave the film a very romantic feel.

I really enjoyed watching the film.......and since I watched the film without any pre-conceived notions, i did not find anything vulgar in the film.JISM has something different to offer......and I think the film is worth watching, if not for anything than, the camera-work, music and look.......and if that is not enough, there is BIPASHA BASU in it, who is sure to make you sit through the film.Though for me she was definately not the reason to watch the film.
