One thing that strikes out about Goa apart from the cheap liquor is the sea food.
I am a pure non-vegetarian and a sea food lover from the bottom of my heart, so to find myself writing about a veggie joint is baffling.
I am recently back from a week off to Goa which was as usual a wine and dine trip. During one of my jaunts down the beach road at Calangute I happened to chance upon a Pure Veg restaurant called Jiya’s. My wife wanted to eat vegetarian food for a change and persuaded me to try this place out.
To my surprise, I found the menu to be quite elaborate with choices from south Indian, Maharashtrian, Punjabi, Gujarati, Jain & Chinese fare. Apart from these, Jiya offers a pizzas, sandwiches, pav bhaji & fresh fruit juices as well.
I called for Sarson da saag, Paneer Amritsari & Naan....quite a risk considering that you were sitting in Goa....but to my disbelief, the food was excellent. Both of us relished the meal.I ended up visiting Jiya’s two more times ....once for breakfast....which was good but could have been better. They also serve Gujarati & Punjabi thali during lunch time. I would highly recommend Jiya’s to all the vegetarian friends who get a raw deal in Goa.Its near the old petrol pump, next to cafe coffee day, on the beach road, calangute.
