I think packaging makes a lot of difference. It surely does, for once you watch Govinda, Sanjay Dutt starer Jodi No. 1, the belief grows even stronger. A oh-so-many times seen story, yet the oil-catching-fire pace, masala music, dollops of oomph and a whirlwind star cast insures a hearty time.
They are the ultimate pranksters, and excel in the art of camouflaging. They steal gracefully, they dance raunchily and they make a fool of everybody (including the audience) with an effortless ease. And fate smiles on them for the director loves them incessantly as well.
The car of their life story undergoes an unexpected change-of-gear when they enter a hyper rich household. The family drama unfolds, where the Jodi indulges in a lot of dhamaal, sing songs with useless bimbettes (Just imagine, do a film only for cavorting around in the scenic Swiss Alps and you are done with. Uhm. Sigh!....) and of course settle scores with a score of baddies.
The Govinda, Sanjay Dutt Jodi is in top form. The man Govinda is simply out of this world. For his comic timing is simply superb. He makes the most ordinary of situations look so-very-special. And I think Sanjay on his part provides an able foil to Chi-Chi bhai, rather selflessly.
Director David Dhawan must be relieved to have scored a hit after a few flops. But, he should thank his stars that he had Govinda to carry off his shoddy script. He better be better prepared the next time around. And, yes, better make sure Govinda figures in that as well.
As for you guys, Watch Jodi No. 1. Full Time Pass. Total Paisa vasool.
