Johnsons Baby Soap is one of the few actual bar soaps available and advertised specifically for infants and older babies. I have tried about every type of baby wash, soap, and skin cleanser marketed for infants. Some are truly gentle enough for a babys sensitive skin, others leave much to be desired. Johnsons Baby Soap is one of the types of soaps that I do like, however.
Because a babys skin can be sensitive, most soaps that are used to bathe a baby should be labeled as gentle, hypoallergenic, or mild. Johnsons Baby Soap is a great choice for those that prefer bar soap over the many baby wash gels and washes available. The soap is gentle, mild, and lathers well on a washcloth. I have found that it lathers even better on a sponge or bath mitt.
The soap is faintly scented and feels moisturizing when lathered. I have had no problems with any reactions with any of my children. Though it is specifically made for babies, my older children have often used it. It may be less costly for those with sensitive skin to try Johnsons Baby Soap, than to invest in higher end sensitive skin soaps marketed for adults.
The only fault I find with Johnsons Baby Soap is that it can be slippery, as bar soap tends to be. When bathing an infant, this can be difficult at times. I highly recommend lathering a washcloth or sponge before attempting to bathe a baby. If older children are using it, make sure it doesnt get lost in the tub for long. It does tend to have that bar soap meltdown effect. For practical uses, one bar should last quite awhile on an infant. The price is reasonable for a gentle, baby-formulated soap.
Naturally, not all soaps work for every baby. Johnsons does seem to live up to its standards for making a gentle soap for infants with their products. It can be used for both body and facial cleansing. As with any new product introduced to an infant, try a small amount of soap on the first bath to make sure that there are no skin reactions.
