Kauwa Chala Dekho Hans Ki Chaal

The Indian Movie Industry decides this year to be the “Year of the Activist”; that person who has slowly risen from our system-by years of frustration and pent up passion, slowly became stronger than any other force and represented the face of every commoner. Certainly the Industry follows the trend of the Country, the new wave which has gripped the country in all forms and ways. Cinema being a huge medium to inculcate the similar behaviour. In forms of Satire, Thriller, Real life Adaptations the trends of Real Face of India is being revealed.

An India which has no confirmed systems, rules and regulations; that the jazzy courts and emotional speeches portrayed in earlier visions is just a sham. That drudgery of law is tying up that table-chair everyday with a typewriter, with a lock-key chain and calling it a Cabin. Of a law which sells affidavits(even if they don’t know how to spell it), poses as a criminal for 1000 bucks and reads horoscopes or poses as part-time band. “Jolly LLB” is a view of Law and its face as it exists in reality. The definitions of getting that Tag attached to your name,  and living up to that Degree. A protagonist representing the weakest backbone of our country named “Law”.  The movie has no “goody-two-shoes” or any other explanations to offer. Its truth as it exists.

Arshad Warsi as Jagdish Tyagi is brilliant in his performance, the only actor I know to carry satire at the back of his hand, and not get pretty obvious about it. Boman Irani is reasonably good but not at his usual best and its only in his portions that I realized that the script loopholes a bit or must say exaggerates. But its Saurabh Shukla and his stupendous character play that adds the life to the Movie. That here is a near perfect portrayal, of an average Indian Court Judge and his behavior. Right from the time he asserts on his daily frustration of “thandi chai” to getting a flat booked in Noida, and having a perfect non-committal, amused look on his face, he is the one you rear for more screen space.

Music is again a brilliant stroke of the movie, especially “Kauwa chala Hans ki Chaal” sung by Kailash Kher is befitting! Krsna knows UP Folk and its nuances by heart- “Law ki toh lag gayee” is yet another instance of that. Jolly LLB is a movie which confirms on one fact for sure that more Journalists need to start working on Movie Scripts- Subhash Kapoor can take the Bow!
