If I’m asked to describe the movie in one line it will be something like JULIE - BEAUTIFUL MOVIE BOLD TOPIC!
First things first, if you want to watch this movie expecting some soft porn stuff in every alternate scene, then you are sadly mistaken. Although the movie has its share of skin show but it’s limited to the the extent necessary for the plot. There aren’t any such scenes just for the heck of it (and thank God for that).
Julie (Neha Dhupia) is a simple homely girl of Goa unaware of the cruelities of the outside world. She wants to get married to her boyfriend Neir (Yash Tonk) but he is an ambitious young man who doesn’t want to get married before he is really rich and succesful. Julie ends up having sex with Neir in the heat of the moment. The next thing she knows is that Neir has married the daughter of a succesful businessman as he made him his business partner.
Julie is heart broken and goes to Mumbai to get over this shock. She lives with her friend Dinky there who gets her a job as secretary in a construction company. There she meets Sanjay Kapoor. Both of them start going out and plan to get married. Needless to say Sanjay Kapoor haves pre-marital sex with her. Everything was going fine till one day Sanjay asks him to sleep with a business client in order to get a contract. Julie is flabbergasted and kicks Sanjay out of her life.
Julie is so badly affected by these two heart breaks that she decides to take up prostitution (after a motivational speech of a ’high society’ pimp). Then comes Mr. Shandalya (Priyanshu Chateerje) in her life. The most eligible bachelor of the town and a business tycoon. He falls in love with her and proposes her to marry him. He doesn’t know about Julie’s past or present occupation of a call girl and isn’t really concerned about her past either.
Julie decides to tell him about her occupation via a television talk show. Priyanshu was in London at that time for a business deal and comes back after seeing the promos of her interview. He goes in the talk show straight after landing to India and accepts her as his wife.
The movie tries to give a message to the society that even prostitutes deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. They are humans too and it’s this society which have created the prostitutes. You are made to think that if your mother, sister or wife was in this occupation would you then also treat them, the way you do now!
Don’t be surprised if Neha grabs a national award for her performance! This movie may well prove to be the turning point of her career. And I feel a talented actress like her also has the capability to win hearts without revealing her body!
Priyanshu has looked competent and confident. Sanjay Kapoor carries off his role like a seasoned campaigner. Yash Tonk is okay. Tara (Achint kaur) has been excellent as the anchor of the television show.
