Worse than The Blair Witch Project

I went out with my friends last week in hopes of watching a movie I could actually enjoy (the last time I trusted them, they made me watch the John Abraham- Prianka Chopra flick Karam – it was a catastrophe). We decided to watch the movie Kaal. I still wish someone could have warned me about the calamity I was in store for.

The movie is set in the orbit national park. It starts off with an undecipherable scene between John Abraham and Esha Deol. He works for the National Geographic channel and she is a wild-life photographer.

Simultaneously we are introduced to the rather curt and ill-tempered Vivek Oberoi and his very superstitious love interest- Lara Dutta. They are of course accompanied by two other friends – one, a daring bloke who is deprived of any intelligent thinking and the other, a petrified dude who provides the comic relief in some parts of the move.

As fate intends, the six of them meet. But soon enough, people start getting killed mysteriously. Images of the tigers in the forest are shown who seem to be no more interested in the movie than the audience!

Almost halfway through the movie, the character of Ajay Devagan is introduced. At this point, you don’t even care.

The number of killings in the jungle begin to increase and they are asked to evacuate the place. Sure enough, it is Ajay Devagan who guides the remaining group out of the jungle.

Finally when only John, Vivek and Lara are the only ones left standing, they realize that Ajay Devagan is the one responsible for the killings. Not a moment too soon, they decide to run for their lives. Their escape is as captivating as any Celian Deon video. And after all the tree-falling and electric wires exploding, they do make it out of the jungle alive.

Moral of the story: Don’t bother. Try it at your own risk. The movie has nothing to do with tigers, except for maybe luring audiences to watch this godforsaken movie, and also creating an awareness that humans are infact to be more frightened of than tigers.
