Not KAAL...its our AKAAL

There are some movies that you see and you remember for a lifetime....

honestly KAAL is not such a movie... hi hi

i went to watch the movie expecting it to be a sleek flick as it promised to be... with the amount of hype that had been created and also the fact that the film had roped in the revered NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC as one of its media partners made me really want to see this movie the very first day.i was really very disappointed... if you wanna know why and how read on...

THE CAST...

kaal boasted of a great cast being the multi-starrer that it is.

shah rukh khan and malaika arora khan for an item number in the beginning.

john abraham (krish thappar) & esha deol (his wife, rhea)

vivek oberoi (dev malhotra) & lara dutta (his girlfriend, ishika)

ajay devgan (kali pratap singh)

note: shah rukh khan and karan johar are the producers.

THE PLOT...

in a short span of 2 months there have been many incidences of tigers attacking human beings in ORBIT NATIONAL FOREST.the forest is due to be closed to the tourist. tiger expert john abraham is afraid that there is some foul play involved. he suspects that it must be the ploy of a certain faction of people who would be benefited if the forest is closed down... viz the poachers. he comes to this forest along with his wife rhea to find out the truth.

dev was testing out his new imported land rover along with a bunch of friends when the car fails them and they have to take a lift from a stranger Bagga.instead of going to the farm house as they had previously decided they end up going to orbit national park on the insistence of bagga in search of big game.

but once you have come in you are the stranger in the jungle...its a whole different ball game whether you will get out.

THE PROMISE AND THE LETDOWN...

with the initial storyline being this intense the movie should have been a cracker.. a new genre in hindi cinema.but I was thoroughly disappointed for the following reasons..

  1. having once watched ’’the ghost and teh darkness’’ I was prepared for the ferocious tigers to wreak havoc but they were there in just 2 mins worth of footage.

  2. it turned out to be a horror flick instead of a nature/adventure/ survival story... ooo ajay devgan so scary(i am joking)... chi chi.

  3. the film has shades of ’’final destination’’ in the way the different characters meet their end. but the special effects are a big let down... they resemble that of a c grade hollywood movie’s specially the scene where vishal(one of dev’s friend) dies. please give us a break.

THE SAVING GRACES...

well the film does have a few commendable aspects to it..

  1. the background score is very well written and executed. it matches the tone of the jungle and heightens the feeling of urgency and danger that one should obviously feel in such a situation.

  2. the camera work is pretty great too although some of the chase sequences could have been better shot.

  3. finally... NO SONGS! NO SONGS! SO SONGS!...that is I mean in between... what a boon.

THE VERDICT...

the movie is watchable but I would not see it again even if somebody paid for my ticket. so the rest is up to you if you wanna take the plunge.
