Kaante is about 6 men with shady criminal pasts who are out to avenge the constant harrasement by LAPD.
They decide to do this by robbing the bank which handles the Police payrolls.
Although inspired heavily by Reservoir Dogs, and City Under Fire, Kaante adds another dimension to the characters. The characters are more emotional and have a purpose in commiting the robbery.
The director has successfuly and very deftly handled the twists and turns of the plot. He does not copy Reservoir Dogs, but remakes it using his own interpretational skills. A indepth look into the minds of these criminals is given.
Although, good in direction, pace and plot, the director does tend to take the audience for granted, especially in the scene where the 6 characters indulge in gunplay on a LA rooftop.
Some scenes are downright hilarious, while others are emotional.
Technically the movie is brilliant. The ambience, camera angles, editing - are all excellent. At times, the Mr.Gupta does overuse the trail effect, but overall the movie has a 10/10 technically.
The performances are all top notch. Every character has equal footage , and importance. All 6 are natural and potray their characters beautifully. Extra stars to Mahesh Manjrekar, who has essayed a very complex character without going over the top. Sanjay Dutt is good as usual in a role tailor made for him. Amitabh Bachan is authoritative as Major. Sunil Shetty is good as the emotional Mark. Lucky Ali deserves special mention as the quiet guy in the group-Mak. Kumar Gaurav has given a decent performance inspite of his long break from films.
The music is excellent and is woven into the story-line, although Mahi Ve..could have been deleted.
Good Music, Excellent plot and Fine performances, will earn Kaante what it deserves at the box office. An award for Manjrekar wont be a surprise.
