This movie has been some much critisized and has been so much in news that it has been considered as the most well promoted movie in Bollywood. Im happy that movies on such a topic are made in Bollywood. . However this movie has also been rated as a "not so good" movie in India only.
If youll search out the review of this movie on other foreign websites. it has been rated as an excellent movie. One sad thing about India is that the people still are not mature enough to handle such situations which are universal. When I discussed this movie with people, some of them felt that its a fake movie and this just does not happen. "Are the people still afraid of reality issues?" Anyways. the movie had been getting a great responce in US.
PLOT SUMMARY: Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna centers on the budding romance between Dev and Maya, who are both married to different people. Settled into a life of domestic ritual, and convinced that they are happy in their respective relationships, the protagonists still yearn for something deeper and more meaningful, which is precisely what they find in each other. From a relationship starting off in pleasant barbs, the two begin to develop and acknowledge the feelings they have beneath the surface. When their feelings come to the forefront, what results is a collision of lives and emotions, affecting everyone involved and changing them forever.
1. Shah Rukh Khan(Dev):
SRK has always been doing romantic dull roles in his movies. In this one, his role is quiet sinnical and arrogant. Hes not happy with his life i.e. marriage as he has broken his leg and has daily fights with his wife Rhea(Preity) and falls in love with another married woman Maya(Rani). This is SRKs best performance ever as its a totally different role. . I rate him: **4.5/5.
*2. Rani Mukherjee(Maya):
Rani plays the role of Maya who has been trying to make her life colourful but things have always been grey for her. She is not happy with her marriage (with Rishi). In the mid of the story she falls in love with another married guy(Dev). But still shes not at all happy as she is a typical Indian wife and believes that she shouldnt cheat her husband. So shes all hung up between happiness and marriage. Many people didnt find her role good as they were totally against the concept of infidelity. This is one of Ranis best performances from the girl next door to an "outsider". I rate her: 4.5/5.*
3. Abhishekh Bachchhan(Rishi):
Abhi plays the role of Rishi whos married to Maya. He loves his wife very much but isnt able to give her true happiness. Finally as his wife betrayes him and falls in love with Dev, he still understands her and forgives her and leaves her. Thats a true husband. His role is excellent in the movie of a loving but not a true loving husband. I rate him: 4/5.
4. Preity Zinta(Rhea):
An extremely professional woman and a very carrier woman and a mother, Preity cannot be forgotten. Her role of a mother is great. She is so much concentrated towards her carrier thats she fails to give her husband (Dev) true love. Hence, her husband betrays her and falls in love with someone else. She finally gets divorced. An acceptionally wonderful performance. I rate her: 4/5.
5. Amitabh Bachchhan(Samarjit):
The worst role in the film. I believe ABs role as Sexy Sam is his worst performance. He plays the character who is Rishis father and Mayas father in law. Many of the viewers found one situation false. When Sam in his death bed tells Maya to leave Rishi. Oh come on. He doesnt say anything wrong! Of course you woudnt want your son to remain unhappy with a not working relationship. I rate him: **3/5.
* Its a movie thats has to be understood and is not just for sheer entertainment. If one puts oneself in Devs and Mayas place one would surely understand their sufferings. We hope Karan makes KANK-2 which deals how Maya and Dev lead their life together. The music is excellent and the cinematography is wonderful. especially in "Tumhi Dekho Naa".
I feel only those people who are quiet matured in understanding relationships and especially the "Modern Day Relationship" will surely love this movie. A different movie having excellent locations, dialogues and breath taking situations, especially the duo Bachhchhan chemistry. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna is an exhaustive watch. Karan.well done !
