Welllll complete wastage of time and money!!

I’ve seen most of Karan Johar’s movies, and I can honestly say that I did not understand where he was trying to go with this one. Every one of his films holds an important message to the audiences, as cliché and it may be. However, I did not appreciate this film’s message to the, mostly young, audience in saying that if you are not in love with your husband/wife its ok to cheat. Johar is blatantly stating that committing adultery is not punishable and that you can get away with it; yeah there are a few tears here and there but ultimately you will end up with that individual no matter what… even if there is a child involved in the marriage! Has our society become so selfish that people no longer look at what is best for their families or children?

No thanks Karan Johar, now I will think twice before seeing your films.

I just wasted my 3.5 hrs last weekend watching this stupid movie which has no sense at all. I guess I can understand why Karan Johar is not married yet. And that is coz he does not have a clue as to what relationship is. This movie is not abt broken relationship. This is about how 2 people find their love by betraying their spouses who love them and make every possible effort to make relationship work.

Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, brings home the point, not to judge the book by its cover. Karan Johar films are known for its grand star-cast, lavish sets and all its extravagance, with all the attractive ingredients they only serve the purpose of a complete family entertainer, rather than adding something to meaningful cinema. This one lags far behind in that attempt as well.

The story is a cliché. With all the nagging-crying-howling of the characters from the start till the end, it has very few of its share of cheerful moments, except for a few senseless comic scenes.

Dev Saran (Shah Rukh Khan), a short-tempered man doesn’t feel comfortable with his wife Riya (Prity Zinta), because of her success. This infuriates more when he feels himself to be completely under her hand after he manages to injure his leg, which devastates a prospective career in football. On the other hand Maya (Rani Mukherjee) finds it difficult to put up with the childishness of her husband Rishi Talwar (Abhishek Bachchan), who loved her desperately and was totally loyal to her. Dev’s and Maya’s path cross during various encounters and they start feeling that they can understand each other well. Gradually with time there comes lot of circumstances to repair their r relationship with their spouses that were on the verge of breaking up, but it seemed they didn’t want things to improve. This ultimately leads to shattering of four lives and driving them all apart. Ultimately destiny favours those two who were the ones to suffer the most in their quest for the right choice, by bringing them together. Amidst all this confusion Rishi’s dad, Samarjeet Talwar aka Sam (Amitabh Bachchan) a flirtatious Casanova with actually no morals in life tries to sort out the problems among these youths.

Shah Rukh is a complete disaster. Priety is ok. Rani is decent as always. Amitabh does justice to his half-backed role. Abhishek steals the show with his stunning performance. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy had done a splendid job. ‘Rock-n-Roll Sohniye’, ‘Mitwa’ and ‘Where’s the party tonight’ are songs to hear and watch.

At the end of the show one would be baffled to figure out the moral of the story. Is it a warning against infidelity or an encouragement to walk out of a relationship which could easily be made stronger? Is it not blasphemous, spoiling a relationship which you had once accepted willfully, where you have been acquainted with the other person since long, who is not only devoted but of understanding nature. What is the guarantee that he would find that eternal happiness with the other person instead? With all the conflicting kind of ideas the film has almost nothing to offer to its audience, except for a decent climax. Due to holidays of Independence Day and Janmashthami it will be doing great business initially due to its publicity but the figures will slide down in the coming days with its competition with Lage Raho Munnabhai and other Diwali biggies.
