KANK was without a doubt one of the years most anticipated films from its mammoth cast, novel story, acclaimed director to the brilliant music. The movie generated a buzz among movie goers like never before and the hype for the movie was immense. The question on everyones mind-does kank live upto expectations? Personally my expectations were EXTREMELY high for the movie given that Karan Johar is my fav director and without doubt KANK is one of the most brilliant films to come out from Bollywood in recent times!
Dev Saran (Shah Rukh Khan) is married to Rhea (Preity Zinta). They have a volatile relationship. Dev strongly resents his wife’s career minded attitude and this makes him bitter.
Then we have the other couple - Maya (Rani Mukherji) and Rishi Talwar (Abhishek). Their relationship is plagued with doubts about their love for each other. This causes them to become alienated from one another.
But one day, Dev and Maya come across each other and this sparks of a series of emotions affecting everyone all round.
Karan Johar as the captain of the ship is a mastermind! The director has proved his worth with his debut film KKHH and with KANK proves that he is one of the BEST story tellers we have in Bollywood today! Right from the look and feel of the movie, the magnificient visuals, to the charatcerisation to everything else-Karan rocks!More over you feel for the lover despite the fact lovers are engaged to someone else.
So it the movie perfect? No- well Karan Johar fell short in the climax a little.It was rather predictable.
Abhishek is incredible, displaying his acting skills to the T. One of the most accomplished actors of the new generation, his versatility is more than evident throughout.
The other performance that stands out is that by Rani, who is awesome. In fact, it wouldn’t be wrong to state that the she towers above one and all in the second half.Preity looks ethereal and delivers a highly competent performance.
Amitabh is in terrific form. SRK’s author-backed role demanded an actor of substance and he lives up to the expectations till the last scene. He is outstanding in the climax specifically
KANK is one brilliant film that is indeed a must-see! Some will like it more than others no doubt, but the movie is one of the most satisfying movie experiences I have had in a long long time.
