What's wrong with KANK?

The first thing that strikes you while watching the film is it’s level of maturity. Not only the theme but also the lead players of the film appear all grown up. The film crackles with cinematic moments. For instance, Rani and Preity approaching Shah Rukh at the road crossing, an emotional Abhishek stumbling away from his father’s hospital bed and Abhishek and Preity dancing to the beat of ‘Where’s the party tonight?...’ while their respective partners are drawn closer in the hotel room above. The strength of the story is that life’s stark and ugly turns are portrayed without pinning blames on anybody.Comic scenes are also well executed, especially the one where Shah Rukh comes home to give Preity a massage and ends up smudging her face pack.

Sexy Sam is suitably flamboyant, his overcoats, his bi-coloured glasses and the audacious manner in which he flirts with every woman in sight and yet plays the agonised dad witnessing the crumbling marriage of his son - only Amitabh could have carried off this multi-layered role with such panache. Kirron Kher is predictable as well as bankable. Shah Rukh delivers a bravura performance as the disgruntled football coach, Abhishek plays his role with great conviction and subtlety. Rani and Preity are well into their characters. The child artiste however is not as endearing as you would want him to be.

Johar spares no effort in making a grand spectacle of his film, from lavish sets, swanky American locales, posh designer wear to fabulous takes KANK is a visual treat. The rock n roll soniye and where’s the party numbers are sure to set the dance floors ablaze this year. Clipping the concluding footage of the film could be make it racier. But kudos to Johar for raising the bar yet again.Dunno why some cynics are criticising it.
