KANK rocks!

It’s common knowledge that a love story works if and only if it’s high on emotional quotient. And the moments linger in your memory. KANK walks into your heart gradually! It works primarily due to two factors mainly: The pairing of SRK-Rani-Abhishek-Preity and a story you can identify with easily. Its a film that doesn’t insult your intelligence, a film that actually leaves you with a positive feeling at the end of the show.

KANK is about two married couples, Dev (Shah Rukh Khan)-Rhea (Preity Zinta) and Rishi (Abhishek Bachchan)-Maya (Rani Mukherji), who’re happy with each other but not hopelessly in love.

Dev’s booming career in soccer comes to an end after an unfortunate accident, leading him to become a coach for kids. Rhea, on the other hand, is a successful career woman, heading a fashion magazine. The difference in lifestyles is slowly taking a toll on their relationship. Then, Dev meets Maya, who’s going through a similar marital discord. Rishi is great hubby material and loves his wife to death; only she doesn’t love him as much.

The film starts off well, but the story comes to a screeching halt the moment Srk and Rani find themselves in a love. The sequences between them at this point are dull and boring, which is a glaring flaw from the writing point of view. The grip is clearly missing!

But the pace picks up gradually in the post-interval portions. And it gets all the more engrossing the moment they stand exposed. From thereon, right till the finale, KANK goes higher and higher on the graph.

The screenplay is very progressive and charters a new territory. The film conveys the message loud and clear. The dialogues, also penned by Karan, are gems.SLE’S music is soul-stirring. ’tumko Bhi’, ’Rock N roll’, ’tumho Dekho’, ’ are tunes that you’d want to hum again and again.

The impact of the music is elevated thanks to the lavish picturizations. Cinematography is award-worthy. The locales of NY enhance the impact to a major extent.

Amitabh goes over-the-top in the first half, but he delivers a knockout performance in the second half. Both Rani and SRK take the film to dizzy heights. The two actors get equal footage and deliver sparkling performances. Srk is in complete form, while Rani not only looks gorgeous, but acts very well too.

Preity is another actor who stands out. She excels. Abhishek is effective.

Worth a dekho!
