Daringly different

An exceptional love story that deals with failed relationships, failed marriages, betrayal and unconditional love. Karan Johar and Shibani have penned an extremely noteworthy script that whether or not viewers agree with it they will undoubtedly be touched by it. There are several scenes which have been written with complete finesse, the scenes where Dev and Maya are constantly trying to hide their relationship but somehow always don’t manage it. The sit down dinner hosted by Sam for Kamaljeet’s birthday where Shahrukh confesses his affair with Maya and then makes a joke of it in front of both the families. The scene where Maya happens to come to Dev’s house and is still holding onto Dev’s snap while leaving and Rhea asks her to return Dev (picture). The film is interspersed with high doses of emotions but nonetheless there are several funny moments too due to Sam’s flamboyant and flirtatious character.

The dialogues by Niranjan Iyengar are forthright and make a lasting impression on audiences. Several dialogues stand out and can be remembered much after the film. Cinematography by Anil Mehta is simply splendid and New York, its streets, its life and its various seasons come across beautifully. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy has given some melodious tunes for the love songs and some super catchy dance numbers. The music is definitely refreshing and even the choreography for the dance numbers is spontaneous and lively. The styling of all the actors is in keeping with their characters and is very appealing. The colours in each and every frame add vibrancy to the film.

The actors have definitely enhanced the film in a big way with their performances. Shahrukh as the cynical Dev is in form once again, he gets into the character so deeply that after a while his negativity actually gets on your nerves. Whether he is delivering his lines with extreme gusto or simply using his eyes and facial expressions to convey his feelings he is truly topnotch. Shahrukh once again proves with this film that he is the ultimate romantic hero. Preity Zinta has an extremely glamorous avatar and her no-nonsense attitude wife’s role has been performed extremely convincingly. She gives her character innate strength, dignity and poise.

Abhishek Bachchan’s sexy, casual style definitely will create a stir and his boy child, fun loving attitude definitely comes through in his character, but he also emerges in form when he learns of his wife’s betrayal. Rani looks absolutely stunning and her performance is simply amazing. Amitabh’s character lights up the entire film and his jovial persona and his flamboyant look are simply lovable. A good performance by the superstar Amitabh Bachchan. Bachchan senior and junior share an amazing chemistry with each other and come across as the ideal father-son duo onscreen. Their comfort level too is clearly visible. Kiron Kher delivers an efficient performance and the child artiste is average. Special appearances by both Kajol and John Abraham come across as cool.

KANK has an extraordinary script, remarkable execution and excellent performances which makes it a brilliant film.
