Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (KANK) : Hopes Dashed to the ground!
When it comes to making perfect tear-jerking family dramas, Karan Johar never fails to rise to the common expectations. His latest film; the long-awaited "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" (KANK) released this Friday to somewhat lukewarm response from the audiences.
In fact, the film has all the chutzpah and ingredients that Karan seems to specialize in, such as gallery of stars, exotic international locales, storyline based on family. It revolves around modern-day marital relationships and has a great star cast to boast of which includes Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta and Abhishek Bachchan. However, the dismal opening of the film may dampen box office spirits if the film does not pick up collections.
An inside source on the condition of anonymity revealed, "It has got a lukewarm response at single screens and it is getting mixed reviews." However, Saurabh Varma, vice president of PVR Cinemas, feels it a wee bit too early to deliver a final verdict as yet. According to him, "Unlike other films, ’KANK has the advantage of a five-day extended weekend. It has got a phenomenal opening and the seats are booked till Wednesday. I think the ultimate verdict will come only after Wednesday."
It has come to light that Karan invested heavily into the film as this was after a long hiatus that he took the directorial reins in his own hands with this film. If the film does not open up to gala collections that it was expected to rake in, it will signal troubles for Johar considering the massive sum to the tune of Rs.500 million that went into the making of the film.
