Like all Karan Johar films, this one too was made keeping the NRI audience in mind....The change being that all the Indian trappings are replaced by glam sets, glam gowns and of course everyones favorite topic these days-infedility.
The film lacks a definite storyline........characters are weak.Karan Johar has gone overboard in his characterization of a "modern" dad, in this case Amithab Bacchan.Senior AB is an eye sore in the not so appropriate role, glares and red trimmed suits.
Shahrukhs character is vague, so also is Ranis, Preitys, AB junior........in short no single character in the film is well defined. Karans penchant for multi-starrers, leaves us with a film with too many people in it vying with each other for screen presence.Looks like he first filled in the characters-Shahrukh because , "he cant make a film without him", Rani because she is the current favorite in the film industry, Preity to wear Versace and Gucci gowns more expensive than the sets alone, AB Senior to ensure people will watch the film and AB junior because he is the current favorite in the industry. Having done all this, a story was then written trying to give all actors equal screen time.
What Karan Johar fails to realise is that the audience is tired of filmmakers using haute coutre as a lame excuse for a poor film. A subject like infedility, which Indian audiences are slowly waking up to, needs a more mature approach and treatment. Versaceand Gucci gowns does not equal a good film.
